On Monday, On3 released the Preseason Freshman All-American Team, and LSU has a 5-star signee on the list.

Louisiana’s Trey’Dez Green, who finished his high school career at Zachary ranked by On3 as a 5-star and the No. 2 tight end in the 2024 class, was On3’s tight end selection for the 2024 Preseason Freshman All-American Team.

The 6-foot-6 two-sport athlete – who also landed an offer from LSU basketball head coach Matt McMahon – has had an impressive start during his first fall camp in Baton Rouge, drawing praise from head coach Brian Kelly during more than one media session this month.

“Well, he certainly looks the part,” Kelly said. “He controls his body really well, has a great deal of confidence. He doesn’t look out of place in any shape or form from a physical standpoint.”

Green is making waves in a talented TE group

With Mason Taylor back as LSU’s starting tight end, and second-year 6-foot-6 tight end Ka’Morreun Pimpton flashing as the backup in fall camp, Green has still carved out big moments as he knocks on the door for playing time during his true freshman season this fall.

“He’s picked things up very well for a guy who’s not played this game very long, it’s coming to him, I don’t want to say easy, but it has not been a very difficult transition for him and that all bodes well for players who are in their first year.” Kelly said.

“My experience has told me that guys that transition quickly, with his kind of physical attributes, they tend to show real quick.”

On3 remains sky high on the future for Green, LSU’s TE room

When the rankings went final for the 2024 class, On3 National Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power weighed in on the move to make Green not just the No. 2 tight end prospect in the country, but a 5-star prospect.

“I think it’s really encouraging from Trey’Dez,” Power said. “When you look at what LSU is doing at tight end under Brian Kelly, you can look at him in a couple years and they have the most talented tight end room in the country.

Trey’Dez Green and Ka’Morreun Pimpton are two major mismatches. I think the prospect of having those two guys in the same room, let alone on the field at the same time, has to be tantalizing for LSU fans.”

With Green landing as the tight end selection on On3’s Preseason Freshman All-American Team, Power shed more light on why the LSU newcomer was the choice.

“Trey’Dez Green is a big time physical talent at tight end, checking in at 6-foot-7 and 240 pounds,” Power said. “He’s a plus athlete and is a considerable mismatch in jump ball situations. Green is already getting in the mix in two tight end sets and it looks to be a great compliment to Mason Taylor at LSU. He’s also reportedly shown a very good physicality and encouraging signs as a blocker. Given his mismatch and how he fits within LSU personnel, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Green make some big time plays early on in his freshman season. Tight end is a position that’s not the easiest to make an impact as a true freshman, but based off the positive reviews of Green thus far, it looks like he could be poised to make an impact in Baton Rouge.”
