Preseason SEC Media poll tabs LSU as top-five team
LSU once again has a top five team in the conference, but this time, there are some new names competing with it. The Tigers are No. 5 in the SEC Football Media Poll, behind Georgia, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss entering the 2024 season. After losing three first round draft picks, including the Heisman Trophy winner, Brian Kelly and the Tigers are back in the top five and looking to get to the first ever College Football Playoff.
The poll is made up of media members in attendance at SEC Media Days.
The Bulldogs received 165 votes to be crowned SEC Champion on December 7 in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with Texas being picked to be the Bulldogs’ opponent in the Longhorns’ first season in the league. Texas received 27 votes to win the SEC Championship.
“This will mark the first season since 1991 with no divisions in SEC Football. The participants of the game will be determined during the eight-game regular-season conference schedule as the teams with the two best overall SEC winning percentages.

The SEC Championship Game has been the most watched conference championship nationally for 15 of the past 16 seasons, including 12 in a row from 2008-2019. The only year it was not No. 1 was 2020 when the SEC did not have a traditional schedule due to the pandemic. The 2023 SEC Championship Game averaged 17.519 million viewers, +61% vs. last year’s game, and peaked with 22.350 million viewers. It was the most-watched Conference Championship Game on any network in five years.”
