QB Colton Nussmeier debuts as an On3 Top 10 QB
The bloodlines are strong at quarterback in the Nussmeier family, and a freshman debut and strong college camp showings from Marcus High’s Colton Nussmeier landed him inside On3’s initial Top 100 for the 2027 class.
“He is a live-armed southpaw and showed some intriguing talent in limited time against top competition (this past fall),” On3 National Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power said.
Doug Nussmeier, the current quarterbacks coach for Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia, has been in coaching for 25 years, a stretch that followed an NFL career saw Nussmeier be drafted in the fourth round out of Idaho before spending time with three different pro teams.
For college football fans, the current household name is Nussmeier’s son Garrett Nussmeier, who is set to be LSU’s starting quarterback this fall. Nussmeier left Marcus High as a Top 100 prospect and the No. 11 quarterback in the 2021 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking.
Now, Garrett’s younger brother Colton has debuted with an even higher ranking, checking in as On3’s No. 6 quarterback and a Top 50 overall prospect. Nussmeier is now the No. 3 quarterback and No. 22 overall prospect on the On3 Industry Rankings, which have early rankings in from both On3 and 247Sports.
This summer, Nussmeier impressed at LSU’s Elite Camp as one of the top passers in attendance, which keeps him firmly on the radar for LSU offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan.

For Garrett, the chance to see his brother follow the same path through Marcus High as he did is one that he cherishes.
“I’m really excited for him and the player that he’s going to be,” Nussmeier said. “He’s going to be unreal. People ask me all the time ‘Who’s better?’ I don’t want to admit it, but we’ll see. I know at that age, I couldn’t spin it like him. So, I’m excited for him and his progression and to see him play this fall.”
Nusmmeir has college offers in from double-digit programs ahead of his sophomore season, including the likes of Ole Miss, Baylor, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, and Texas Tech.
“It’s been really, really cool,” Nussmeier said of his brother’s college interest at this stage of his high school career. “Ever since we were young, throwing in the yard, we were always doing something, always competing at something. I’m really proud of him. It almost makes me a little emotional. It’s really cool to see him go through it and live out his dream.”
