Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy is wanted on negligent homicide and felony hit-and-run charges, Baton Rouge television station WAFB first reported on January 10.

The wreck, which killed a former Marine and injured two others, occurred at 10 a.m. ET on December 17, according to WAFB’s reporting.

Louisiana State Police investigators allege Lacy sped from the scene of the accident after initially causing the crash and did not report his involvement to police. Lacy, a 24-year-old native of Thibodaux, is also wanted on a charge of reckless driving, per court records.

WAFB obtained the police report that stated Lacy was driving a 2023 Dodge Charger on I-20 and “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated No-Passing Zone.”

A northbound driver in a pickup truck abruptly hit the breaks and swerved to avoid a head-on-collision with Lacy’s Dodge Charger, forcing a Kia Cadenza that was behind the pickup to swerve left, crossing the centerline and hitting a southbound Kia Sorrento head-on, according to the police report.

A passenger in the Kia Sorrento, Herman Hall of Thibodaux, was critically injured and later died at a local hospital, according to investigators. Hall, 78, was a former Marine.

Two days after the deadly crash, Lacy announced his decision to enter his name into the pool of players ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

WAFB’s Chris Nakamoto reported the following on Friday as part of the news station’s coverage of the story.

“A Louisiana State Police document contains the following allegations about the incident: As Lacy was illegally passing the other vehicles, the driver of a northbound lane pickup truck abruptly braked and swerved to the right to avoid a head-on collision with the approaching Dodge. Traveling behind the pickup truck was a Kia Cadenza whose driver swerved left to avoid the oncoming Dodge Charger. As the Kia Cadenza took evasive action to avoid impact with the Dodge, it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a southbound Kia Sorrento. Following the crash, Lacy drove around the crash scene and fled south on LA Hwy 20 without stopping to render aid, call emergency services, or report his involvement in the crash. A passenger in the Kia Sorrento, Herman Hall of Thibodaux, was critically injured in the 10 a.m. crash and transported to a hospital where he later died, investigators said. Hall, age 78, was a former Marine. Louisiana State Police said LSP detectives and troopers were able to determine that Lacy was driving the Dodge Charger at the time.

Lacy closed out his senior season at LSU by leading the Tigers with nine receiving touchdowns on 58 catches and 866 yards, ranking first on the team with an average of 72.2 receiving yards per game in 2024.
