Report: Louisiana Governor bringing a Tiger on the field for LSU vs. Alabama
LSU will have a live tiger in Tiger Stadium for the first time since 2017, as reported by LouisianaSports.net on Thursday afternoon.
Louisiana governor Jeff Landry has been advocating for Mike The Tiger to return to the sidelines this year and now he has gone out of his way to get a different tiger to bring on the field ahead of Saturday’s showdown between LSU and Alabama.
“I think the opportunity to bring our mascot back onto that field is an unbelievable opportunity. How ’bout we honor Mike VI by bringing us a live tiger on the field?” Landry said in early October. “Tigers that live out in the wild, they don’t get an opportunity to go around the corner and see a veterinarian. Everybody that has some anxiety over this needs to calm down.”
LSU announced in January of 2017 that Mike VII would not be attending any more home football games as the school attempted to have Mike’s habitat accredited as a tiger sanctuary. Landry is not using Mike VII for this maneuver, instead bringing in a different tiger to display at the game.

The Alabama game is the first of three home games for the Tigers during the month of November. Following a trip to face Florida on Nov. 16, LSU closes out the 2024 regular-season hosting Vanderbilt on Nov. 23 and Oklahoma on Nov. 30.
