The Bengal Tiger MVP: Caden Durham sets LSU freshman record
LSU true freshman running back Caden Durham turned in three touchdowns to help knock off Arkansas, and he set a program record along the way.
Durham turned 21 carries into 101 yards and all three of LSU’s touchdowns, adding a 7-yard catch on his lone target to take home The Bengal Tiger’s Player of the Game award.
On Saturday night in Fayetteville, Durham became the first LSU freshman to rush for more than 100 yards and score three touchdowns against an SEC opponent in program history. He’s also the first freshman to accomplish the feat vs. any LSU opponent since 1995.
After breaking onto the national scene with multiple touchdowns in a 17-point comeback win at South Carolina, Durham has taken over as the go-to running back on LSU’s offense – which had been in search of a spark after struggling to get the ground game going out of the gates.

Now, LSU is sitting at 6-1 through SEC games and tied for the top spot in the Southeastern Conference standings. And while the passing attack led by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has been huge, Durham – who was ranked as a Top 5 running back on the On3 Industry Rankings for the 2024 class – has proven to be one of the biggest impact pieces on the roster this fall.
As a true freshman, Durham has logged 72 touches for 530 yards, which is good for 7.4 yards per touch). He’s totaled eight touchdowns through six games played, with six scores coming on the ground and two by way of the passing game. His longest run of the year went for 86 yards, and his longest catch went for 71 yards – and both came on back-to-back touches for the talented newcomer out of the Lone Star State.
Durham’s 62 touches, 382 yards and six rushing touchdowns is tops among all LSU running backs. Veteran Josh Williams has 55 touches for 218 yards and three touchdowns, while sophomore Kaleb Jackson has 40 carries for 145 yards on the year.
