LSU tight end Mason Taylor is in the thick of his NFL Draft prep, and his stock is trending in the right direction. According to FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Taylor is visiting the Cleveland Browns today and tomorrow as part of a busy pre-draft schedule that’s already included stops with the New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, and Miami Dolphins. He’s also been in constant communication with teams via daily Zoom sessions.

“One of the cleaner prospects in the draft, Taylor has steadily risen up team boards and has a real shot to be a late 1st or early 2nd-round pick,” Schultz reported.

Taylor helped his cause in Baton Rouge during LSU’s Pro Day in March, showcasing his skills with a 4.65-second 40-yard dash and an impressive 28 reps on the bench press.

“I think I did pretty well,” Taylor said. “And really the main reason (for waiting for Pro Day) was just to keep training — do the workout at the Combine, talk to the teams, get the experience, but then also keep working at it. I was showing a lot of progress when I was still in training, so I thought it was best for me to keep training and come to Pro Day and show out. So, I believe I did that pretty well.”

Most mock drafts stick to just the first round, but recent deeper projections by ESPN’s Mel Kiper and NFL.com’s Chad Reuter have slotted Taylor at No. 55 overall to the Los Angeles Chargers in the middle of the second round.

ESPN analyst Todd McShay also left Taylor as a second-round selection in his latest mock draft last week, but floated the potential of consideration of the LSU tight end at No. 32 to the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles to end the first round.

Taylor arrived at LSU in 2022 from national powerhouse St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, where he won three state titles. He made an immediate impact in Baton Rouge, bursting onto the national scene with a game-winning 2-point conversion catch in overtime to knock off Alabama in a 32-31 thriller.

Over the next two seasons, he became a consistent presence in the Tigers’ offense, even while battling injuries. He finished his LSU career as the program’s all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end, including a 55-catch, 546-yard campaign in 2024.

The 6-foot-5, 255-pounder’s father is Jason Taylor, Hall of Fame defensive end. Mason has twice earned SEC Academic Honor Roll honors and was named to the Freshman All-SEC team in 2022.
