The LSU football staff went on a huge run of commitments between July 1 and September 1, reeling in 16 of the program’s 22 verbal commitments during that three-month stretch ahead of the season opener.

After a recent shuffle to the industry rankings, the Tigers moved up a spot in the On3 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

With a score of 93.079, the LSU football staff now has the Tigers at No. 5 in the recruiting rankings.

The lone programs ranked ahead of LSU are Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Notre Dame.

LSU’s staff has done a great job of keeping the current commitments on board, and a pair of Top 50 recruits who shut things down to play for the Tigers have recently doubled down on that decision as other schools work to flip them away.

The lone official visitor of the season, Utah’s Tausili Akana, is coming off a trip to Baton Rouge that left a big impression on the Top 100 prospect and his family, putting the Tigers squarely in the mix moving forward.

What other prospects could come into the picture for LSU in the 2023 class?

In Thursday’s tidbits, we offered up a couple names in Louisiana that are worth monitoring moving forward.

Also, we weighed in with the latest on LSU’s chase for 2024 quarterback Julian Sayin, who will reveal his college choice within the next month.
