Top LSU, Louisiana performers in NFL Week 5
Louisiana and LSU have long been among the top NFL talent-producers as a state and college program, respectively.
And several former Tigers and natives of The Boot were once again among the top performers around the league in Week 5.
Joe Burrow (LSU) and Ja’Marr Chase (Archbishop Rummel, LSU)
Despite the Cincinnati Bengals’ 1-4 start, the dynamic duo from LSU continues to prove itself among the best quarterback and receiver in the NFL. Burrow told reporters this past week he would have to be “damn near perfect” for the team to beat the Baltimore Ravens. And, until a costly interception late, the former Heisman winner was pretty close. Burrow completed 30 of 39 passed for 392 yards and five touchdowns for the weekend’s third-highest completion percentage, second-highest yardage total and highest touchdown total and Pro Football Focus passing grades among all quarterbacks.
Chase, the former Archbishop Rummel star, meanwhile led the league with 193 yards — including 96 yards after the catch — and two touchdowns on 10 receptions. The total easily marked a new season high, as well as his most yardage since his career-high 266 yards on Jan. 2, 2022, against the Kansas City Chiefs late in his record-breaking rookie season.
Jayden Daniels (LSU)
LSU’s most recent Heisman quarterback actually came back down to Earth some after an astronomical stretch to close September, but still performed well enough to lead the Washington Commanders to a 34-13 rout of the Cleveland Browns and maintain their sole possession of first place in the NFC East. Daniels completed 14 of 25 passes for 238 yards, a touchdown and an interception and rushed 11 times for a team-high 82 yards. The yardage total was the second-highest of his young career so far through five games.
Brian Thomas Jr. (Walker High, LSU)
Two of the league’s top six receiving performances came from former LSU stars, as the rookie caught five passes for 122 yards — an explosive 24.4 yards per catch — and a touchdown as one of the top performances for the Jacksonville Jaguars in finally notching their first win, 37-34, over the Indianapolis Colts.
Patrick Queen (Livonia, LSU)
The former Livonia and LSU linebacker was again among the Pittsburgh Steelers’ defensive leaders with nine tackles against the Dallas Cowboys to mark his new highest tackle total and PFF defensive grade since coming over from the AFC North rival Baltimore Ravens this offseason.

Donte’ Jackson (Riverdale, LSU)
The speedy corner out of Riverdale and LSU intercepted another Louisiana native, former Haughton and Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott, on Sunday Night Football as one of the highlights of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 20-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Jackson also recorded four tackles.
Foster Moreau (Jesuit, LSU)
The former Jesuit and LSU tight end caught his second touchdown of the season for his hometown New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Jaquelin Roy (U-High, LSU)
The former University Lab and LSU standout was activated from the New England Patriots’ practice roster this weekend and recorded his first career sack against the Miami Dolphins, along with four tackles and another hurry.
Edgerrin Cooper (Covington)
The Green Bay Packers’ rookie linebacker saw his most extensive playing time thus far of his young career with 30 snaps in a 24-19 win against the Los Angeles Rams and finished with a sack, another hurry and five tackles with his highest-graded PFF performances in tackling, pass rush and coverage.
Malcolm Roach (Madison Prep)
The former Madison Prep star was among the league’s top-rated defensive players for a second straight week at the center of the Denver Broncos’ defensive-led three-game winning streak. Roach, who started his NFL career with the New Orleans Saints, earned an 80.8 overall defense grade from Pro Football Focus, including a 77.9 grade for his run defense, including three tackles and a hit on the quarterback in a 34-18 division victory against the Las Vegas Raiders.
