The Tigers have their first transfer portal addition of the 2023 offseason in Vanderbilt transfer Jordan Wright. The Baton Rouge native spent the last four years in Nashville under Jerry Stackhouse helping build that program into a competitive team and now looks to return home for his final season.

At 6-foot-6, Wright played in 124 games over the past four years, starting 74 and averaging 9.5 points per game for his career. The past two years have seen an uptick in aggression from Wright, who has attempted 10 and 9.5 shots per game. For his career, he’s a 41.8 percent shooter from the field and 31.5 percent from 3-point range.

Wright is a versatile defender with good length and in the final eight games of the season scored 15 or more points six times.

LSU’s offseason outlook

Coming off of a 2-16 season in the SEC and the departure of KJ Williams, there was plenty of room for improvement with this LSU roster and Wright is a step in the right direction for Matt McMahon’s staff. A veteran guard/wing with SEC experience should be able to step in and immediately contribute and compete with potential returners like Cam Hayes, Adam Miller and Mwani Wilkinson.

With the addition of Wright, McMahon’s staff makes its first addition to the roster, knowing there’s still more work to do. The Tigers continue to host visitors and make pushes for other top names in the portal as the offseason continues to unfold.

With Wright, LSU is currently up to 11 players on next year’s roster with two spots remaining. We’ll have to wait and see if anyone else transfers out, but at the moment, LSU sits in a better spot than it did entering the offseason.

The returners at this moment are Trae Hannibal, Cam Hayes, Mwani Wilkinson, Jalen Reed, Tyrell Ward, Derek Fountain, Shawn Phillips and Adam Miller. Four transfer departures have McMahon with some room to work with when looking at how to improve this roster. Stay tuned to the Bengal Tiger On3 for the latest scoops and news.
