It wouldn’t be LSU-Auburn rivalry week if the days ahead of kickoff didn’t come with some dramatics.

On Friday, an interview on the The War Rapport Podcast with former LSU and current Auburn wide receiver Koy Moore  went viral when Moore confidently backed his talents compared to the wide receiver room he was a part of in Baton Rouge during the 2021 season.

In 2021, LSU’s wide receiver room production was split between six receivers who logged 300 receiving yards or more in Boutte, Jenkins, Jack Bech, Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr. and Trey Palmer, who is now at Nebraska.

Moore appeared in six games as a sophomore in 2020 before announcing his decision to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, catching five passes for 71 yards and no touchdowns. As a freshman in 2020, Moore appeared in 10 games and caught 22 passes for 177 yards and no touchdowns.

When asked about his decision to leave a “crowded” receiver room in Baton Rouge, Moore backed up his decision to bet on himself after going through a coaching change that saw his playing time decrease.

“It wasn’t even about that,” Moore said of the other wide receivers in the room. “In my opinion, I’m not trying to be cocky or nothing, I was the best receiver in that room.”

When one of the hosts pointed out the receiver room included potential first-round NFL Draft pick Kayshon Boutte, Moore gave praise – but didn’t back off the confidence he has in his own talents on the field.

“Oh, I know,” Moore said in response to the praise of Boutte’s talents. “And I’m better than him, for sure, for sure.”

It’s confident banter from Moore, who signed on with Boutte as part of LSU’s 2020 recruiting class.

During his freshman campaign in 2020, Moore was joined in the wide receiver room by the likes of Boutte, Terrace Marshall Jr., Jaray Jenkins, Racey McMath and Jontre Kirklin. Moore started the team’s season-finale against Ole Miss and turned in six receptions for 63 yards – both career highs at the time.

Since arriving at Auburn, Moore has appeared in all four games and logged six catches for 100 yards.

Through four games this season, the Tigers are led by Nabers, who has caught 20 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown. Thomas is second in yards with 11 catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns, while Jaray Jenkins leads the way in scores with three touchdowns on 13 catches for 126 yards. Redshirt freshman Chris Hilton Jr. sits inside the top five on the roster with seven catches for 109 yards.

In three games played, Boutte is sitting on 10 catches for 93 yards.

Junior Karen Lacy has seven catches for 84 yards, while sophomore Jack Bech has eight catches for 65 yards and a touchdown.
