WATCH: Shelton Sampson beats Ashton Stamps for TD
2023 Baton Rouge (La.) Catholic wide receiver Shelton Sampson helped his team to a win over Metairie (La.) Archbishop Rummel on Friday. The five-star LSU pledge caught 10 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Check out the clip below from The Bengal Tiger’s Peter Rauterkus as Sampson beat fellow Tiger commit Ashton Stamps.
Sampson is the No. 30 overall player in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is the fifth ranked wide receiver prospect and the No. 2 overall player in Louisiana.
On3 has him even higher than the On3 Consensus, ranking him as the No. 20 overall prospect and No. 4 wideout in the country. Shelton Sampson committed to LSU over the likes of Alabama, Florida State, Texas A&M and others in August.
Shelton Sampson scouting report
Sampson reminds On3 of the late former Denver Bronco wideout DeMaryius Thomas, a first round NFL Draft pick. The Baton Rouge area star is locked in as a five-star for On3 in the 2023 recruiting class.

“Sampson reminds us of Demaryius Thomas with his size, vertical speed and ability to make contested catches on jump balls,” On3 director of scouting Charles Power said. “Sampson is one of the bigger top wide receivers in the 2023 cycle at 6-foot-3.5 190 pounds with 4.4 speed. Thomas was a touch heavier at 210 pounds as a recruit, but the explosive ability and ball skills are similar at the same stage.”
Shelton Sampson’s a part of a stacked LSU wide receiver class for Cortez Hankton. Sampson is joined by Sunshine State 4-star WR Jalen Brown, Lone Star State 4-star WR Kyle Parker and in-state 4-star WR Khai Prean. With 23 commits, LSU ranks No. 4 in the country, according to the On3 Team Recruiting Rankings.
