The route will look different than he hoped heading into the week, but Zy Alexander is heading to the NFL.

The Seattle Seahawks signed the LSU cornerback to an undrafted free-agent deal, according to multiple reports.

The deal includes $249,000 guaranteed, including a $15,000 signing bonus, according to KPRC2 reporter Aaron Wilson.

Seattle did not draft a cornerback during the 2025 NFL Draft that concluded Saturday evening, despite the position being considered one of relative need to address.

And Alexander now adds to the Seahawks’ rookie group a player who developed into one of the better corners in the SEC this fall.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound athlete started 18 of his 19 games during two seasons in Baton Rouge and finished with 77 tackles, including 2.5 for loss and a sack, and four interceptions and 11 pass-breakups.

In his final college season, Alexander earned the nation’s 37th-highest coverage grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF) among all cornerbacks to play at least 50 snaps, including No. 24 among draft-eligible players and No. 6 among players in the SEC.

“Just overall, I’m a complete player,” he told reporters at the NFL Combine in March. “I’m a long corner. I can run. I can tackle. I’ve got ball skills. Just overall, I’m a complete player. Man, zone, it doesn’t matter. I’m a complete player, a complete corner.”

Alexander had been anticipated by many analysts as a prospect likely to hear his name called during the three-day draft. But he has already shown a track record for patience and perseverance to reach this point in his career.

The former Loreauville High quarterback signed with Southeastern Louisiana in 2020 as a largely under-the-radar recruit and, after a COVID-delayed and shortened first season with the Lions, quickly developed into a two-time All-Southland Conference First-Team corner by his second and third seasons in Hammond and then a two-year starter at LSU after transferring.

His first season with the Tigers was cut short by a knee injury that cost him the offseason and the start of the 2024 season before he returned in September and became a key piece of the team’s defense throughout SEC play.

“It means a lot,” Alexander said of the opportunity to play at LSU, following the footsteps of great cornerbacks he watched growing up. “Growing up I was watching guys like that, Patrick Peterson and Tyrann Mathieu, so me being able to be listed as one of those guys from DBU, I’m excited.”

After a 10-year streak of having at least one cornerback selected in each draft, the Tigers have now gone two without.

Alexander hoped to be the player to rekindle that run, but he also told reporters during the pre-draft process that the future of the group is bright.

“We’ve got a lot of good corners,” he said. “We’ve got Ashton (Stamps). We’ve got Mike (Turner Jr.), PJ (Woodland), Wallace (Foster IV), D.J. (Pickett) — it’s a lot of us, so we’re gonna see.”
