4-star EDGE Hayden Lowe signs with Miami Hurricanes, completes flip from USC
Miami may not have always been the top school for Los Angeles (Calif.) Oaks Christian four-star EDGE Hayden Lowe throughout his recruitment, but the Hurricanes’ coaching staff’s persistence ensured Miami was his top school during the Early Signing Period Wednesday.
Lowe, a former USC commit, signed his UM National Letter of Intent Wednesday and formally completed his flip from the Trojans. The No. 113 overall prospect and No. 12 EDGE in the On3 Industry Ranking is a bigtime addition.
Lowe initially committed to USC over Miami June 9 but kept in contact with head coach Mario Cristobal and co-defensive line coach Jason Taylor throughout the summer and fall. Lowe emerged as one of Miami’s potential flip targets this fall as the Hurricanes kept the heat on. Communication briefly cooled, but Miami prioritized him like no one else.
“I feel it was just a relationship rebuild,” Lowe said after his flip. “It cooled down but then I got to talking to them a lot more and I noticed that they’ve been showing me unwavering love rather than USC — it’s been an on-and-off thing with USC. I’ve been a No. 1 guy, then haven’t. U Miami, I’ve always been their number one guy. It speaks to you, have to go where you’re wanted.”
Taylor stopped by Lowe’s school during the Hurricanes’ October bye week despite Lowe remaining publicly solid with the Trojans. Miami continued to chip away at Lowe before suddenly – and somewhat surprisingly – flipping him in early November. Oregon also tried to flip him from USC.

“What’s funny is I haven’t told them (the staff yet), officially told them. We’ll see (how the staff reacts) in a couple of minutes!” Lowe told CaneSport immediately after his flip. “I texted (co-defensive line coach) Jason Taylor, `What other defensive linemen do I have in my class that are coming to Miami?’ He gave me the list and I said, `Well you have one more: Hayden Lowe.’ And he sent me a long text that (included) `You won’t regret this decision.’ Now they know.”
Lowe felt like he couldn’t pass on Miami given the message the staff had consistently hammered home.
“They made me feel like I was the poster boy down there, if I go there I can be the face of their program,” Lowe said. “And if I go there I can get connected, coached by one of the best defensive linemen in the history of football. It was a history I couldn’t pass at all.”
Lowe will be a January enrollee.
CaneSport’s Take
Lowe was one of the bigger surprises of the class considering how publicly strong he’d remained in his commitment to USC, but Miami’s staff fully adopted the cliché that `it’s not over until it’s over.’ Lowe is definitely a bright spot in Miami’s class.
