The 2024 recruiting cycle is far from finished, but things are beginning to heat up as more and more prospects continue to commit — even if they don’t choose Miami. Several of the Hurricanes‘ priority prospects have already committed elsewhere, although that doesn’t mean Miami is throwing in the towel on these recruits.

Here are five prospects Miami is trying to flip in the 2024 recruiting class. All rankings are from the On3 Industry Ranking.

Jeremiah Smith, WR, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna | Five-Star Plus+ recruit | No. 2 national recruit | No. 1 WR | No. 1 Fla. recruit | Ohio State commit

  • Smith tweeted following his April visit that he was done visiting Miami, but the Hurricanes aren’t simply going to give up on a top three national recruit less than an hour from campus. Miami hasn’t slowed down since Smith committed to Ohio State in December and has been determined to prevent the Five-Star Plus+ recruit from being “the one that got away” after the Hurricanes lost elite American Heritage four-star receiver Brandon Inniss to the Buckeyes a year ago. The odds of landing Smith may be slim to none, but don’t expect Miami to throw in the towel on Smith until pen meets paper on signing day.

Ellis Robinson IV, CB, New Haven (Conn.), IMG Academy | 5-star recruit | No. 7 national recruit | No. 1 CB | No. 2 Fla. recruit | Georgia commit

  • Robinson committed to the Bulldogs Feb. 1 but is still receiving attention from Miami’s staff, who was battling Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and nearly every other program under the sun for one of the most highly-coveted prospects in the class. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists Miami as having a 1.1% chance to land Robinson behind Georgia (where he is committed), Alabama and Penn State.

Jaylen Heyward, S, Rockledge (Fla.) | 4-star recruit | No. 54 national recruit | No. 3 S | No. 9 Fla. recruit | Georgia commit

  • Heyward has set an official visit to Miami and visited Coral Gables this spring. Miami has battled to remain in the picture for the four-star safety, who has said he is still holding interest in the Hurricanes. AuburnFlorida, MichiganOregon and Penn State are among the programs making the biggest effort to flip Heyward, according to On3’s Chad Simmons. Miami has told Heyward he doesn’t need to go far to have a stellar college career.

Jamari Howard, CB, Hialeah (Fla.) Westland | 4-star recruit | No. 80 national recruit | No. 10 CB | No. 13 Fla. recruit | Michigan State commit

  • Miami is maintaining its interest in Howard, who attended Miami’s spring game April 14. He plans to make the trip to Coral Gables at some point this summer — whether for an official visit or an unofficial visit — and said the coaching staff is doing a “great” job recruiting him. Florida, Florida State and Nebraska are other programs working to flip Howard.

Lawayne McCoy, WR, Miami (Fla.) Central | 4-star recruit | No. 298 national recruit | No. 52 WR | No. 44 Fla. recruit | Florida State commit

  • McCoy was once viewed as the prospect whose commitment could get Miami’s recruiting ball rolling in the 2024 recruiting class, although that has clearly changed. However, McCoy told Warchant.com there’s a chance he could still visit other programs, which Miami will certainly aim for.
