BREAKING: 4-star CB, On300 prospect Chris Ewald commits to Miami
Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna four-star cornerback Chris Ewald has committed to Miami, the No. 162 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 20 cornerback announced Thursday evening.
Ewald chose the Hurricanes over Georgia, where he took an official visit last weekend, and becomes Miami’s 13th pledge, second cornerback and third defensive back in a 2025 class prioritizing the secondary. Ewald also becomes the second-highest rated Miami commit so far this cycle behind four-star running back and No. 161 overall prospect Girard Pringle.
The 5-foot-11.5, 170-pound cornerback recorded a pair of interceptions and 20 pass deflections last season on an undefeated Chaminade-Madonna team that was MaxPreps’ No. 2 team in the country behind Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman. He also recorded 45 total tackles (27 of which were solo) and one tackle for loss.
Ewald took an official visit to Miami June 14 before visiting Georgia the following week. A source told CaneSport the Bulldogs made a strong impression on his visit and gave the consensus four-star prospect plenty to consider, although the Hurricanes did enough early this week to ensure he remained in South Florida. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine had long favored Miami’s chances to land Ewald following several RPMs in March. The four-star prospect has also visited Miami more than any other program.

Ewald was previously committed to Michigan but decommitted in January following head coach Jim Harbaugh’s departure for the NFL.
CaneSport’s Take
Ewald was a prospect the Hurricanes couldn’t afford to lose — especially to an out-of-state school — and Miami sealed the deal after a brief scare from the Bulldogs. Other schools won’t give up just because he’s committed, but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up signing with the Canes in December.
If Miami can land five-star cornerback DJ Pickett, four-star cornerback Jaboree Antoine, four-star cornerback Ben Hanks Jr. or some combination of the three, the Hurricanes could end up with a secondary class that turns heads this cycle. In-season results will be a major factor for Pickett, who is still considering LSU, Oregon and Georgia, and Florida has done well for Hanks. We think Miami is in an excellent position for Antoine.
