Miami has landed its first offensive line commit of the 2026 cycle in four-star On300 offensive tackle Ben Congdon, who announced his pledge – he committed during his visit to Coral Gables with his family Monday.

The No. 177 overall prospect and No. 20 offensive tackle becomes the Hurricanes’ fourth commit in the class and third On300 pledge in a recruiting class currently ranked No. 13 but poised to jump. Congdon began the year as an unranked prospect but saw his stock skyrocket as college coaching staffs evaluated junior film. He’s received more than a dozen offers from major programs since the start of the new year, although the Hurricanes were one of the first 10 schools to offer.

Congdon was recruited intensely by offensive line coach Alex Mirabal and head coach Mario Cristobal and developed a tight relationship with the two since landing his Miami offer last fall. Mirabal and Cristobal both made trips to Mineral City (Ohio) Tuscarawas Valley during the January contact period to watch the 6-foot-7, 270-pound offensive tackle wrestle and meet.

Congdon is the second-tallest offensive lineman Miami has signed under Cristobal only behind 2024 junior college offensive tackle signee Markel Bell.

He’s also currently the third-highest ranked offensive lineman in the On300 Miami has landed behind 2023 five-star signees Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola, although the Hurricanes still have their sights set high in this year’s class. Miami remains in the running for No. 1 overall prospect and offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, four-star offensive tackles Keenyi Pepe, Sam Greer and Johnnie Jones and four-star guards Breck Kolojay, G’Nivre Carr and Micah Smith. The Hurricanes are also high on a number of three-star prospects outside of the On300.

Congdon currently has official visits locked in with Miami June 20 and Penn State June 6, although it’s not immediately clear if he’ll still take his official visit to Penn State or not.

CaneSport’s Take

Miami did a tremendous job evaluating Congdon early and getting on his radar before other major schools — particularly Ohio State, who Congdon lives less than two hours from — could jump on him and try to make a significant push. Cristobal and Mirabal deserve every bit of credit for moving quickly with Congdon to earn his commitment and rolling out the red carpet on his second unofficial visit of the year to Coral Gables. I think he gives Miami’s an excellent foundation to build its offensive line class off of.
