Former Missouri forward Marcus Allen is heading back home after announcing his commitment to the Miami Hurricanes. After entering the transfer portal on April 4, Allen will return to South Florida to play for new Canes head coach Jai Lucas.

When appointed as Miami’s next head coach, Lucas made it clear that he planned to build the Hurricanes program with a focus on keeping the best prospects in-state.

So far, he has done just that, with Allen now the eighth portal signee to commit to Miami in recent weeks, with a decidedly in-state flavor to the bunch. He joins PF Malik Reneau (Indiana), C Ernest Udeh Jr. (TCU), PG Tre Donaldson (Michigan), SG Tru Washington (New Mexico), Slovakian F Timotej Malovec, four-star SG Dante Allen, and four-star SF Shelton Henderson.

“Florida has the best talent coming out these next couple of years, so it’s building those relationships, getting them to understand the value of staying home, coming to Miami,” Lucas said. “You always want to keep the best players home, so that’s what we’ll try to do.”

Last week the Hurricanes announced the hiring of former Missouri associate head coach Charlton Young, who coached Allen with the Tigers last season. Young, a Miami native, brings almost three decades of Division I coaching experience to the Hurricanes basketball program. He has been a part of nine NCAA Tournaments and two regular-season conference titles, while coaching 15 NBA Draft picks, including Patrick Williams, Scottie Barnes and Thaddeus Young.

Allen, a Miami native, played high school basketball at Norland. He was the No. 74 overall recruit and a four-star prospect in the 2024 cycle. He was also ranked as the No. 25 small forward in the class and the No. 12 player out of the state of Florida, according to the On3 Industry Ranking—a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Allen appeared in 26 games off the bench this year for Mizzou. In those games, he averaged 2.6 points and 2.0 rebounds per game.
