BREAKING: Former New Mexico G Tru Washington Commits To The Miami Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball team rebuild is in full swing, and new head coach Jai Lucas and the Canes have added another piece to their growing roster. Today, former New Mexico guard Tru Washington announced his commitment to Miami.
This past season, Washington played a vital role in the Lobos’ run to the Round of 32 in this year’s NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 11.1 points, 4 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 42.5 percent from the floor. Washington’s 2.1 steals per game ranked third overall in the Mountain West.
While some believed Washington would follow former New Mexico head coach Richard Pitino to Xavier, the sophomore guard will instead be taking his talents to Coral Gables. According to Transfer Portal Rankings, Washington is the No. 116 overall prospect and the No. 6-ranked combo guard.
Washington now joins former Indiana forward Malik Reneau, TCU center Ernest Udeh Jr., and Michigan guard Tre Donaldson on Miami’s growing roster.

The Phoenix, Arizona native played his high school basketball at AZ Compass Prep, where he was ranked as the No. 129 overall prospect and the No. 9 combo guard in the 2023 class.

Tru Washington is a strong guard who can handle, shoot, and pass. He is a tough-minded defender, wanting to guard the opposing team’s best perimeter option. While not a dynamic playmaker, Washington can get you into sets and is not affected by pressure handling the ball. He is a solid shooter and a good athlete. Washington can finish in traffic and absorb contact.
