BREAKING: Four-star QB Dereon Coleman commits to the Miami Hurricanes
Over the last three weeks, things have moved fast between the Miami Hurricanes and Orlando (Fla.) Jones four-star 2026 quarterback Dereon Coleman.
On June 17, the 2026 gunslinger was offered by Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson after dominating at the Canes 7-on-7 event. A week later, on June 23, he was back on campus throwing for Dawson and Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal.
And now, on July 3, Coleman has committed to Miami over Oklahoma, UCF, and Ole Miss.
“They’ve kept it real with me since the beginning,” Coleman told CaneSport. “If I know a coach (Dawson) can keep it real with me and be on me, that’s great, and that’s like how I have it now at my high school. I just related to that with coach Dawson. Knowing I’ve got another coach like that and not being able to slack with him is big, and I think it’s a great fit for me.”
A Sunshine State native, Coleman has always had his eyes on the Canes since a young age. Although the 6-foot, 165-pounder was not yet born when Miami won its last national championship, Coleman knows the history of the program and hopes to be a reason the Canes return to a national powerhouse.
“The Canes are on the come up again, and I want to be a part of that,” Coleman said. “When the Canes are going, there is no stopping them, and I would love to be a part of that.”
Coleman is now the third member of the 2026 Hurricanes class, joining four-star linebacker Jordan Campbell and four-star wide receiver Malachi Toney.
According to the On3 Industry, Coleman is the No. 315 overall prospect and the No. 24 quarterback in the 2026 class.

“I’m going to try and bring some of my teammates from Jones,” Coleman said. “I’ve been down in Miami a lot, so I know a lot of special guys with special talents down there. There’s a lot of guys I want.”
As a sophomore, Coleman threw for 2,236 yards and 16 touchdowns while adding 247 yards and four scores on the ground after sharing reps with former four-star and current Florida State quarterback Trever Jackson.
“They’re going to get a dog,” Coleman said. “They’re going to get a leader who will lead the team to a championship. They haven’t had that in a little while, so it’s time to do it.”
CaneSport’s take
With Coleman on the board, the Canes are the latest program in the country to land their quarterback in the 2026 class. Although Coleman’s size may be of concern to some, Miami’s staff is extremely high on his upside and arm talent after watching him throw live on multiple occasions.
