CaneSport Recruiting MInute: Hylton Stubbs

Just over a week removed from his decommitment from USC, Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin four-star safety Hylton Stubbs has announced his pledge to the Miami Hurricanes over the Florida Gators.

“I’m feeling great with the Canes,” Stubbs said. “I love the staff, and I love the connection I can get in Miami. Just everything about Miami is great, and I’m loving it.”

During the final official visit weekend of June, Stubbs and his family were down in Coral Gables. That is when he realized he wanted to become a Hurricane after seeing what the Canes had to offer and speaking with defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry

“The OV is what really opens my eyes,” Stubbs said. “I’ve been getting recruited by Miami for a long time, but coach Chevis Jackson, I really like what he’s doing as a DB coach and what coach Guidry is doing as a DC.”

Stubbs is the No. 56 overall prospect and No. 5 safety in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 7 player in Florida.

This upcoming season, the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is excited to see the Hurricanes defense in action in year two under Guidry.

“Turnovers,” Stubbs said when asked what he was looking forward to seeing from Miami’s defense this fall. “That’s the best part of my game, and I want to see that in their defense. I want to see a lot of turnovers this year.”

Stubbs is the 16th commit in the Hurricanes 2025 class as well as the highest ranked.

“I’m liking all of the commits,” Stubbs said. “Amari, Ewald, Nix, the linebacker from Central, and Elijah Melendez. We’ve got some dogs at linebacker, and we’ve got some dogs on the defensive line too.”

Stubbs is also the third defensive back from the Sunshine State in Miami’s 2025 class, joining four-star cornerback Chris Ewald and four-star safety Amari Wallace.

“We’re trying to go back to 2001,” Stubbs explained. “We’re trying to be the next Antrell Rolle, Ed Reed, and Sean Taylor.“

His message to the Miami fans?

“I’m ready to play right now,” Stubbs said. “They’re going to get a dog.”

CaneSport’s take

The Miami Hurricanes staff continues to bolster their 2025 class, with Stubbs now on the board. In the coming days, the Canes will look to continue to strengthen the class, with several top targets set to commit in the month of July.
