Signing day is around the corner, and it’s closing time for the Miami Hurricanes and coach Mario Cristobal.

And UM just closed on a heck of a recruiting flip: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas 2024 four-star running back Jordan Lyle.

“I’ve always liked the Hurricanes growing up,” Lyle said. “They have the potential to win out in the ACC in the next couple of years, and I’m starting to hear what they’re saying.”

It’s a big boost to a class that already ranked No. 14 in the nation before this newest addition.

Lyle initially committed to Ohio State in April, and he visited for multiple games at Miami this fall … and was on campus for an official visit this past weekend.

The No. 154 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking rushed for 1,157 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns this year. The 6-foot, 190-pounder built a strong relationship with Miami coaches which precipitated the flip.

“They want me to be ready to go there as a freshman and play the first game of the season in the Swamp,” Lyle said. “They already said I’m physically there, and I just need to get into the playbook if anything. It’s great to hear that, and I take it as a compliment because not a lot of people can come in and play as a freshman.”

Lyle’s three teammates at St. Thomas Aquinas who are committed to Miami, Chance Robinson, Ryan Mack, and Romanas Frederique, also piqued his interest in the program,.

CaneSport’s take

Stealing one from Ohio State brings back Mark Fletcher memories, right? Miami always wants to keep top talent home, and now UM has done that again. Huge kudos to the staff.
