BREAKING: Miami Hurricanes Win Canon Pickett Commitment Battle Over Gators, Clemson

Maybe it wasn’t too hard seeing this one coming. Yes, Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Bay Tech OL Canon Pickett – whose father Booker Sr. is a former Hurricane and whose older brother Booker Jr. is a current Cane – is on board in this 2026 recruiting class.
The 3-star interior offensive line standout back on September 7. And Wagner certainly didn’t back off that prediction after Pickett told him following the visit last weekend that “I’m definitely excited about Miami. It can be one of the best options. … They have great academics here. I’m just excited.”
The excitement bubbled over into today’s commitment announcement, with Pickett choosing Miami over Florida (where he was scheduled to visit this weekend) and Clemson (where he visited May 30). He previously said he’d wait to announce until “late June, early July,” but there was simply no need. He says UM always made him feel like a top priority, including during numerous campus visit. This commitment is a thank you and nod to that.
“I’ve always liked Miami, especially growing up because both of my parents went there so we all grew up Miami fans,” Pickett said. “I’ve always been close with the offensive line coach, because when they were recruiting Booker they were recruiting me as well, so I’ve always been close with that whole staff. I know everybody. It’s just great. And coach (Alex) Mirabal is one of the best coaches in college football, and coach (Mario) Cristobal. I just like the way the program looks.”
Yes, Pickett pretty much always knew where he wanted to play college ball. It was just a matter of making sure. And he’s sure.

A 6-4, 280-pounder, he’s rated the No. 574 overall prospect and No. 49 interior offensive lineman in the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s a versatile lineman who is athletic, powerful and nasty.
“My favorite thing about them is that their coaches have a history of development at the offensive line position, and the whole program is on an upwards trend,” Pickett said.
CaneSport’s Take
Add another to the line class that now is six strong … and we mean strong! Pickett has a bright future and is a great pickup, and we really never had any doubt he’d be a Miami Hurricane as you can see from the above. He joins an OL recruiting class that already is the envy of the nation, including 5-star and No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Cantwell, 4-star Ben Congdon, 3-star Joel Ervin, 3-star JJ Sparks and 3-star Rhys Woodrow. As for an evaluation of Pickett? We’ll leave you with this: On3’s Corey Bender from the UF site watched Pickett play at the UA All-America Camp and wrote that “Pickett played left tackle in one-on-ones and showed a lot of physicality. Once a defender was in range, he made sure to rough them up and knock them off path. You could say he needs to play under more control, but he does a nice job of reacting to movements and not overextending. There is some versatility with him too. Many project him as an interior prospect, but I think there is potential for him to tackle. He moved his feet better than I had anticipated. Pickett has a strong and muscular frame.”
