BREAKING: Three-star CB Timothy Merritt commits to Miami
Just hours removed from his official visit to Miami, Birmingham (Ala.) Parker three-star cornerback Timothy Merritt has announced his commitment to the Hurricanes.
“The vibe there and how they treated me and my family was great,” Merritt told CaneSport. “How they treated my mom, embraced my family, and made everybody feel. I just loved everything about the place.
In Merritt’s recruitment, relationships played the biggest factor, and in the end, the Alabama native believes he has built one of the strongest relationships with Miami’s cornerback coach, Chevis Jackson, and the entire Canes staff.
“They were shocked and couldn’t believe it,” Merritt said.
Throughout the visit this weekend, Merritt believes he saw all that he needed to believe he could succeed on and off the field in Miami.
“I just thought to myself that I could really come here, handle everything I want to handle, graduate in three years, and if I handle my business play as a true freshman,” Merritt said. “A lot of freshmen don’t get that opportunity, and that was big for me and my family. I want to be a three-and-done guy.”
The Hurricanes staff showed Merritt a three-year plan which was something that piqued his interest in the program even more, which led to his eventual commitment.

“They were telling me and showing me how my three-year plan would be,” Merritt explained. “I liked how it sounded, and they showed me everything I needed to know and everything I needed to hear. They laid it out on a map for me. They showed me over and over again how to be better.”
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, Merritt is the No. 484 overall prospect in the 2025 class.
Although Merritt has committed to Miami, the 6-foot-2, 180-pounder still plans on taking his official visits to Tennessee and Arkansas in the coming weeks and then Alabama and Auburn during the regular season.
“I’m still seeing what everyone else has to offer,” Merritt said.
His message to Miami fans?
“Y’all are getting a ball player, and I’m going to give my heart every day,” Merritt said. “I don’t really have to say, but they will see what I bring to the table.”
CaneSport’s take
Miami knocked it out of the park during Merritt’’s official visit, which led to his commitment to the Canes. Although Merritt is a Miami pledge, he still plans on following through and taking the rest of his summer official visits, which will be something to monitor.
