SJ Alofaituli

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman four-star interior offensive lineman SJ Alofaituli has committed to Miami over Michigan, Nebraska and others, the blue-chip prospect announced Friday. His commitment gives the Hurricanes their 17th pledge of the 2025 class and fifth offensive line commit so far this cycle.

Alofaituli, the No. 71 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking and No. 4 interior offensive lineman, is also the third prospect to commit to Miami this week following four-star linebacker Gavin Nix Monday and four-star safety Hylton Stubbs Thursday. He gives the Hurricanes their second top-100 commit of the class and their highest-ranked offensive line pledge since landing five-star offensive tackles Francis Mauigoa and Samson Oklunlola in the 2023 class.

Alofaituli is Miami’s 11th commit since the beginning of the summer as the Hurricanes have shot into the top 15 of the On3 Industry Ranking and look to secure their third-straight top-10 class and second-straight top-five class. The 6-foot-0.5, 290-pound prospect also took official visits to Michigan and Nebraska but was also pursued by Texas A&M, USC and Oregon this spring.

Alofaituli told CaneSport Miami was “something special” following his official visit and felt the Hurricanes made a strong impression on his second trip to campus this year. Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal have both aggressively pushed for the top-75 prospect since the start of the year.

““I’m liking it down here for sure,” Alofaituli said after his official visit. “It was really the love and the coaches, going to my family and the plan they had for me over here, just the plan, you know? It’s something special for sure. The coaches were loving as always, love my family, love me. Guys like Elija Lofton (from Bishop Gorman) over here, they showed out over spring ball. It’s something I plan to do (if I come here) as well.”

Miami made a strong move for Alofaituli on his official visit but made clear playing time would be earned, not given. Alofaituli had long said depth chart and how he fits into the roster would play factors in his recruitment, and he spoke highly of Cristobal and Mirabal. Miami has now landed at least one player from Bishop Gorman in three of Cristobal’s first four recruiting classes since arriving at Miami in Dec. 2021.

Miami began trending heavily for Alofaituli in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine following a series of RPMs for the Hurricanes over the last week. Alofaituli told On3’s Steve Wiltfong earlier this week each program he official visited loved him and his family “100%,” adding his parents have a “deep love” for all three programs.

But in the end, he chose Miami.

CaneSport’s Take

Alofaituli may be the most talented interior line prospect Miami has landed since Cristobal arrived and is talented enough to play center or guard at the college level. The Hurricanes have plenty of depth on the interior ahead of him, but he could be ready to start by his sophomore year if he continues on his current trajectory.
