Dan Radakovich on Tuesday: Over 50,000 tickets distributed for opener, season tickets about 6,000 ahead of 2021 & a facilities update
At his previous stop, first-year Miami Hurricanes Director of Athletics got pretty used to football success. That was at Clemson, where in his nine years he oversaw two national titles and six College Football Playoff appearances.
The idea now? Replicate that at Miami.
After the team’s practice on Tuesday, Radakovich shared his thoughts with the season approaching Saturday.
“Distributed well over 50,00 tickets to the game,” Radakovich said. “Really looking forward to a great crowd this Saturday as we get a look at the coach Cristobal-led Hurricanes.”
Radakovich says there are more than 35,000 season tickets sold and that “The goal is to sell them all – 65,000 is capacity but after student tickets, visitor tickets and player parents, etc. our number is 46,000 or 47,000 we can sell.”
Radakovich says his understanding is there have been approximately 6,000 more season tickets sold compared to a year ago.
“Good progress,” he said.
A big focus for Radakovich since he came on board was raising money to build state-of-the-art facilities on par with the best in the nation.
The progress there?
“We are continuing to move forward with our plans,” Radakovich said. “Our idea from jump street was to build the forever home of University of Miami football, the operations center much as you see on other campuses around the country. We’re well on our way moving forward with that. We have started the fundraising for that project and it’s going incredibly well. As the fall unfolds we’ll have more public-facing focus on that. Rest assured that is priority 1 we are working on. We found some space on campus to be able to do that. It’s important we utilize the Carol Soffer Indoor facility as well as expanding to a full field circumstance. Lots going on right now, I feel really energized about where it’s heading.”

Radakovich says there’s no definitive timeline on when construction will commence.
“No timeline yet, but soon,” he said.
Radakovich talked about how the ACC moves forward with a TV deal that isn’t as lucrative as other conferences. “IT’s well known we have a grant of rights, our TV contract goes through 2036. We have to do things that allow our members to continue to be competitive. Those are things we’re working on right now. … You see the SEC, Big Ten, where they’ve moved forward. It’s time now for the ACC to really see what we can do to take the next step in our league, whether staying with the number of teams we have right now or expanding.”
Radakovich said there’s no thoughts right now to UM even having thoughts of leaving the ACC “because of the legalities.”
As for a potential new stadium that John Ruiz has talked about building for Miami football? Radakovich says that’s not a focus for the program right now.
“We have 10 or 11 more years on a contract (at Hard Rock), so our focus is not as much where we play those seven games a year,” Radakovich said.
