MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

What has changed in college football since we hired Mario? … Posted by Hooracane

ALOT. NIL and the transfer portal have neutralized Mario’s original plan to rebuild the roster through HS recruiting. That is the single biggest factor that has frustrated the plan…Mario has been forced to transition from being a HS recruiter and CEO to a personnel scout and NIL cap specialist. He has to recruit his own roster every year as well as the rest of CFB in the portal. He can only go after players his NIL budget will afford. The highly rated 4 and 5 star HS recruits he used to commonly get now command too much of the NIL budget which means he has had to pivot to recruiting more HS 3 stars who do not command as much NIL money straight out of HS. The bulk of the NIL budget must then be allocated toward potential portal acquisitions. All of this is obvious to anyone that is looking at the facts. It all comes down to money and whenever that comes into play Miami will always be at a historic disadvantage. While Miami has invested a lot of money by historic “program standards”, that investment pales in comparison to larger programs such as Bama, TX, OSU, Michigan, PSU, LSU, etc. etc. etc. As NIL budgets continue to annually expand, the economic disparity between Miami and those other larger programs will grow larger and larger. NIL is an existential threat to college football as we once knew it and there is no way to put that genie back in the bottle. Miami will need more and more NIL money for Mario to have a chance to compete. He maybe the greatest salesman in the world but he can’t sell without NIL $$$$$$. In the end, the current system strongly incentivizes players to go to the highest bidder whenever they can. There is no time to develop players when they can literally leave whenever they want without consequence. The current structure is totally unsustainable and if left unchecked will lead to only a handful of programs being able to compete for titles consistently. The only solution I can see IMO is to SHUT DOWN THE PORTAL and return to the old transfer rules. You have to stem this massive roster turnover or players will chase the largest check every offseason.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

Rueben Bain Syracuse
Neil Gershman – Zooba Images

“I feel really good. With the team we’ve got, who we’ve got, and we’re still approaching things with the right mindset, practice has been real fun and competitive these last couple of weeks. Just going into this game with the mindset that we’re going to get this 11th win, which is something that hasn’t happened in a long time.”
