IMG Academy four-star interior offensive lineman Breck Kolojay initially planned to announce a commitment this fall. But after taking seven official visits over the last three months, the No. 1 interior lineman on Miami’s board thinks his decision date could be moving up.

The No. 307 overall prospect and No. 25 interior offensive lineman told CaneSport he doesn’t have a hard date or firm timeline in mind but said he could commit “before the season maybe, maybe even in a couple of weeks or maybe at the end of July.” He wants to make sure he works with his agent to make the right decision as top programs, including Miami, continue their pushes.

Kolojay felt before his official visits Miami and Georgia were neck-and-neck at the top of his recruitment. But multiple programs surged during his official visits to make his race significantly tighter.

“That gap, it’s different now,” Kolojay said. “I was pretty locked in on Miami and Georgia and then USC and Oklahoma made some big moves. I think Miami and Georgia are still at the top of my list, but it’s making it really hard for me with the aggression of these schools and honestly how hard they’re coming at me right now and wanting me to commit. So right now the playing field is kind of even.”

Kolojay said Oklahoma and USC have gained the most ground for him in recent weeks, although Miami and Georgia have remained aggressive. He said schools “are making moves money-wise, stuff wise, they’re just doing extra stuff to put themselves in contention for me.” USC’s staff has told Kolojay “we’re drafting you,” which he said he appreciates.

But once Kolojay feels he’s getting a fair NIL value, which he’s remained vocal about and said multiple times he believes will play a meaningful factor in his recruitment, he knows what else he’s going to consider.

“I mean one thing is who’s committed,” Kolojay said. “I know a lot of guys that are committed to USC like one of my best friends Mark Bowman, who I grew up with. That’s huge. That’s one of my childhood friends. He was my quarterback on my youth football team. Or like my teammate Zech Fort committed to Georgia and Jackson Cantwell at Miami. And (Keenyi) Pepe at USC. That also plays a factor in terms of peer recruitment, kind of saying we’ve done this before and we can do it again at the next level.

“And another thing is the environment I’m in. Like Miami and Georgia are two completely different environments. I’m not necessarily saying I don’t like either one, it’s just two completely different places. Miami is a big city and Athens is a college town. I just really have to zone in and think of what I’m looking for in terms of that. I think all of the coaches are fantastic. I wouldn’t have an issue going to any one of those schools. They’re fantastic coaches. So at this point I’m kind of really looking at the details, how they’re playing the recruitment off, are they being a little too aggressive or are they having me take my time and do other stuff. I’m just weighing my options.”

Miami having six offensive line commits hasn’t scared off Kolojay. He knows he’s still the top guard on the staff’s board.

“That’s not an issue for me at all,” Kolojay said. “The cream always rises to the top and I know what I can do. Miami’s not looking at me at like a sixth or seventh man; I’ve been their No. 1 priority since day one. So I have no concerns about depth chart, who’s committed because I’ve done it at each level, I know what it takes and I’m a competitive person.”

So where’s Kolojay going to end up?

“I don’t know,” Kolojay said. “I’m just kind of seeing where my heart’s at, praying about it, trying to take my mind off it and just really seeing where I’m feeling at.”

CaneSport’s Take

If we had to pick a school this exact second for Kolojay we’d probably go with Miami, but his recruitment feels so open we could still see this going a number of different directions.
