Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek LB/DE Marcellius Pulliam was one of the first scholarship offers that coach Mario Cristobal gave out after arriving at Miami in December. At that time it was his 15th offer.

Pulliam kept adding offers afterward.

But in the end only one mattered.

He committed to Miami today, choosing UM out of a final list that also included Auburn, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Louisville.

“Tell Cristobal we’re home, we’re going to The U!” Pulliam said at his announcement.

He adds that “Miami is a great school, has some things coming. Miami, coach Cristobal over there, they’re trying to do something special.”

Pulliam had only visited Miami once, in June unofficially. But he felt the love from Canes coaches.

“I see they are making something great,” Pulliam said. “And coach (Charlie) Strong, the linebackers coach, he’s a great guy, you know? I can really connect with coach Strong. He gives off a great vibe, and the atmosphere there – they treated me like family. It’s a family atmosphere.”

Pulliam adds of Cristobal that “Coach Cristobal, he’s a great guy, a genuine guy. Everything he says is true.  He’s a straightforward guy, is going to keep it nice and cordial with you. He’s a great person.”

So what has Miami landed here?

Sandy Creek High assistant coach/Pulliam’s mentor Jeremiah Hammond says he’s a standout playmaker who can play DE or LB at the next level.

“He’s done a great job athletically, is 6-4, 220, and I still see him getting taller. I know Kentucky was looking at him as an edge rusher and while people are saying linebacker with him I think ultimately with him being a very aggressive player and edge rusher fits him,” Hammond said. “But he does really like playing linebacker, likes covering, so that’s what most recruited him for.

“His style of play is really, really aggressive and he does very well on the run.”

CaneSport’s take

Pulliam joins Malik Bryant, Raul Aguirre, Kaleb Spencer and Bobby Washington in the class, giving the Canes a big class at a position of huge need. We like this pickup a lot, and the momentum continues for the recruiting class.
