WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

There was the big news yesterday we broke down that Georgia QB Carson Beck is going in the portal … with Miami perhaps the frontrunner. We have a closer look thanks to a Georgia writer’s perspective, and also a film study of Beck. So don’t miss that analysis. Plus we look at why his UCL tear perhaps isn’t as big a deal as some make it out to be.

Check out our film study on a very important portal piece, Jacksonville State safety Zechariah Poyser. Is he an answer at a position that struggled this past season?

We also have updates for you live from the Navy All-American Bowl. Don’t miss what Miami four-star EDGE signee Hayden Lowe and Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney four-star defensive lineman Elijah Golden were talking about.

As for UM visits to schools? Canes head coach Mario Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal stopped by The First Academy and sat down with four-star OL Chancellor Barclay, who raved about his time with the duo. Don’t miss that.

Cristobal, secondary coach Chevis Jackson and linebackers coach Derek Nicholson also stopped by Seffner (Fla.) Armwood Wednesday to see No. 159 overall prospect and No. 15 cornerback Jaelen Waters, a Florida commit the Canes are trying to sway. Find out how that effort’s going.

Miami (Fla.) Carol City four-star 2026 linebacker Jordan Campbell has been solid in his commitment to the Hurricanes for more than a year and maintained a relationship with head coach Mario Cristobal and linebackers coach Derek Nicholson for some time, but he was still enthused to see the two Miami coaches when they dropped by for an in-school visit Monday. Find out about that.

And Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes On300 2026 running back Carsyn Baker got a visitWednesday when Miami executive director Stephen Field made his way up to the Peach State to check in on the four-star tailback. We talk with Baker.

Another update: Four-star top-35 offensive tackle Keenyi Pepe is as important a prospect as any, so don’t miss what he’s saying.

Plus, with Miami’s high school recruiting focus now fully on the 2026 cycle, it’s time to take a look at which schools we think the Hurricanes need to have a presence at over the next 12 months.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Not worried about our pass rush … Posted by Klbcec

Miami had 37 sacks in 2024. That’s three per game. Average is 2.5. Miami had 34 sacks in 2023

People are ripping the line for a lack of sacks. But it takes about 2.5 seconds to get to the QB and sack him. Our DBs and LBs were unable to cover receivers. The back end scheme was terrible. OCs figured out how to scheme Guidry’s defense and identify the mis-match so the opposing QB was getting the ball out most of the time in under 2.5 seconds.

Given the secondary issues became apparent week 5 of the season, I would have expected some drop off by the end of the season and some frustration from the DL that the back end couldn’t hold up for more than 2 seconds.
