WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Well, we continue to update our portal tracker daily as the Miami Hurricanes continue to look to upgrade their roster not just through recruiting but also by adding transfers. Classes begin Tuesday, so time is getting short.

This morning we continue our new feature looking at the Miami recruiting classes spanning 2017-21 to determine the “hit” rate … with that rate needing to surpass 60% to be at a championship level per an On3 study (with a “hit” considered a multi-year starter). We have our analysis of Miami’s classes of 2018 and 2019 up on the site today, and it gives your first inkling of what Mario Cristobal was facing with this program’s challenges when he arrived.

We also continue to take a closer look at Miami’s portal additions, with Matt Lee’s turn today. What does the UCF center bring to the table as a Hurricane?

In recruiting we catch up with 4-star Mazeo Bennett, who Miami is chasing and has reciprocal interest. Where do things stand with him?

Plus the CaneSport 30 for 30 series continues with No. 22 Jalen Rivers. We take a deep dive into his situation … which might include his coming off the bench this year.

There also was a basketball game last night, and Miami beat up on BC, 88-72, by shooting 60 percent and with five players in double figures. We have your recap and postgame reaction off that one.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

TWEETS OF THE DAY

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Based on recruiting and portal – predict record next year … Posted by Klbcec

Assuming Gattis is OC:

Bethune – win

Miami (OH) – win

Temple – win

aTm – Loss

FSU – Loss

Georgia Tech – Win

Virginia – Win

UNC – Loss

Boston College – Win

Clemson – Loss

Louisville – Toss up

NC State – Win

Looks like a potential 7 or 8 win season. If they get some good fortune 9 wins. Maybe the culture will change and they’ll meet or exceed expectations, but even if they do, I think they max out around 8 wins. I don’t see any significant upgrades from the portal in positions of need. Losing Jackson hurts the DL. And I can’t see a bunch of freshmen coming in and being difference makers at enough positions to change to overall record. Two more recruiting classes and maybe.

AM I wrong?

(I gave the win in the NCST game because we seem to have their number lately).

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I love Miami, and I love everything about Miami. The staff, the players, they’ve made me feel like Miami is home.”
