WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Well, stay tuned for coach Mario Cristobal and coordinators Lance Guidry and Shannon Dawson as they share their thoughts on the team today coming off a bye and with a huge game at Louisville looming.

And just because the undefeated Canes had a bye weekend, it doesn’t mean we didn’t have plenty of news for you Saturday, Sunday and again this morning.

It starts with Gary Ferman looking back to Miami’s last 6-0 start as this team tries to avoid that team’s ending with Ferman also pointing out areas that can improve … as well as Matt Shodell’s column looking at how this season can go one of two directions off the bye weekend.

We also continued our midseason Grading the Canes series, and you can check out our analysis of the defensive line, linebacker and defensive back positions plus special teams.

In recruiting?

Miami running backs coach Matt Merritt stopped by Aledo (Tx.) to check up on four-star top-100 running back Raycine Guillory, a former Texas commit who visited Miami for the Hurricanes’ ACC opener against Virginia Tech in late September. Get the latest there.

Another update is with Miami (Fla.) Central three-star 2026 linebacker Karon Maycock. He has been no stranger to the Miami Hurricanes, with several campus and game-day visits this fall.

And Miami (Fla.) Norland 2027 cornerback Kenton Dopson, who has been making a name for himself in South Florida as one of the best young defensive backs in the area, how has a Cane offer and shares where things stand.

There’s also an update with North Carolina commit / Orlando (Fla.) The First Academy athlete Danny Odem. Miami has offered, and Odem shares his take.

Then this past weekend the Miami Hurricanes dipped into the Peach State and offered Fairburn (Ga.) Langston Hughes four-star running back Carysn Baker, who is quickly becoming a name to know in the 2026 recruiting class. We talk with him.

Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson also watched the first half of 2025 four-star quarterback commit Luke Nickel’s game Friday night, and his presence still meant plenty to the top-150 prospect and future Hurricane.

We also have hoops news, catching up with Jalen Blackmon and Matthew Cleveland for their thoughts on this year’s team that tips off the season later this month.

RB coach Matt Merritt checked up on Carrollton (Ga.) Central four-star running back Jonaz Walton, the No. 29 overall prospect in the On300 on Friday, the final day of Miami’s bye week. Get Walton’s thoughts.

Plus check out our coach’s take on Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman four-star offensive line commit SJ Alofaituli and how his season is going.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Ranking the running backs … Posted by apollofl

So what I’ve actually seen is proven in stats, Allen is one of our most consistent backs! Yea, I know someone will say he’s doing it in wrapup time…..The thing is, he’s doing it. It’s pretty obvious that he’s either entering the portal or he’s in the doghouse.

And he’s done more with less Reps… Damien Martinez has played 194 reps, Mark Fletcher 137, Jordan Lyle 68 and Ajay Allen 33

But leads in YPC Martinez at 4.4 YPC (long of 33), Fletcher 6.0 (long of 29), Lyle 7.2 (helped by his 91-yard TD) and Allen 8.4 (helped by a 56-yard run).

PFF numbers…There you’ll find the leader is Allen at 4.47 followed by Fletcher’s 3.89, Lyle’s 3.09 and then Martinez at 2.95

PFF run grades? Fletcher leads the way at an elite 88.4 followed by Allen’s 81.5, Lyle’s 78.0 and Martinez’s still-very-good 75.7. Martinez, of course,

As far as helping in pass protection? There you’ll find Lyle at 82.0 percent, Allen 75.7, Fletcher 69.3 and Martinez at a low 53.7 percent.

What’s wrong with this picture!!!!

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“They’re letting me know they’re coming at me 100%. They’re showing me they really want me. That’s pretty much it.”
