WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Don’t miss our update with RB Mark Fletcher as he looks ahead to the bowl game and his faith in QB Emory Williams as he looks ahead to next season.

We also have your updated transfer portal tracker, as we’re keeping tabs on all the doings for the Miami Hurricanes in the portal. We are bringing you updates on every portal target as they happen, including analysis of what they can bring to the team. There were commits from over the weekend we brought you to check out, so don’t miss those. Gary Ferman also takes a look at how Cal QB transfer Fernando Mendoza could still make sense for Miami … and what is working against that.

In recruiting?

We have new coach’s take items for you on Miami signees: Sanford (Fla.) Seminole four-star offensive lineman Max Buchanan, Leo (Ind.) four-star tight end signee Brock Schott and Savannah (Ga.) Benedictine Military School four-star EDGE and 2025 Miami signee Herbert Scroggins. So don’t miss all of those.

We also have an update with 2026 target Larry Miles, who will be at Miami’s bowl game.

Plus Orlando (Fla.) Jones four-star quarterback Dereon Coleman and Miami (Fla.) Carol City linebacker Jordan Campbell showed why both are amongst the top prospects in their class at the Defcon 7v7 showcase, and we catch up with them.

There also was the basketball team dropping to 4-8 with an OT loss to Mount St. Mary’s, and we have that covered for you as well. We analyze Jim Larranaga’s situation with a column this morning by Matt Shodell also, so don’t miss that.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

High school recruiting is quickly becoming obsolete/irrelevant …. Posted by MillieD

The risk reward just isn’t there to make financial sense. It just makes more sense for schools to save that money to pay for proven transfers that are less likely to fail. Miamis highest rated transfers over the last 10 years or so (rated 6.0 and higher) prove this theory.

Mark Walton – Hit
Sam Bruce – Miss
Jeff Thomas – Miss (Had great potential but was a cancer to the team)
Navaugh Donaldson – Hit (But nothing special)
Lorenzo Lingard – Miss
Brevin Jordan – Hit
Mark Pope – Miss
Al Blades Jr – Miss
DJ Scaif – Hit (But nothing special)
Avante Williams – Miss
Leonard Taylor – Hit (But nothing special)
James Williams – Hit (But nothing special)
Jake Garcia – Miss
Francis Maigoa – Hit
Samson Okunlola – Miss
Ruben Bain – Hit

As you can see from the list above, only 8 of these can’t miss prospects were hits and even most of the hits were nothing special. These prospects would have demanded HUGE NIL deals in todays game and that would have been a huge financial loss for Miami.

The way of the future will be to spend significantly less money on high school recruits in order to save that money for proven talent in the transfer portal. Even though those transfers will be more expensive your hit rate should be significantly better.

“I have 10 out of 10 confidence in Emory (Williams). He put his whole body on the line for us. That just shows the heart he has for us and the type of player he is, so I’m all in with Emory Williams.”
