MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Our coverage defense … posted by Mister Biggs

Is too complicated.

It’s not a communication problem.

It is too complicated to learn in a summer which is critical to consider when taking in the bulk of your transfers during the summer. From an installation perspective, you cannot run one defense during the Spring that is customized for that group with many missing parts and then add a bunch of random dudes in the Summer without an updated install. These are humans not computer parts that can easily update the software to accommodate the additional features.

Mario made the mistake of going all in after Cam Ward made his decision which the bulk of elite portal additions were off the board. He should have gone all in early AND waited for Cam.

Regardless of any changes Mario makes between now and the next season, Mario needs to be in sync with the entire flow of the program. All changes, if any, need to occur before Spring practice, or it will cost us, again.

We are better off keeping the entire staff and attacking the portal as one in sync unit. No excuses this year now that we know what the problems are. it is easier to fix what you know is wrong than it is to start over. Also, do we really want to wait until the beginning of Spring ball to announce our new hires? How will that hurt portal recruiting?

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

Mario Cristobal Syracuse

“It was a combination of things. Sometimes we didn’t communicate well enough, at other times we were out of position. Other times they flat out made a play. Their passing game, the ball is out. They protect, get it out. The precision of their route running is really, really good. We had early success in the first quarter, after that it was spotty. They made some really, really big plays and we hurt ourselves with some penalties, some technique stuff, fundamental stuff. I always say it has to fall on coaching and playing. We gave ourselves a shot at the end. Heck, four minutes (left) we thought we could make them one-dimensional (with the run since Syracuse needed to run clock), at least get two runs out of them and put ourselves in a good third down situation which typically comes with that. We never got there. They popped a couple of runs. All in all, certainly not a good day.”
