WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Well, there was the big news over the weekend with Miami’s basketball coaching search pointing in Jai Lucas’ direction. We kept you updated on that.

And this morning don’t miss Gary Ferman’s column looking at expectations for the football team with spring drills starting a week from today. Miami certainly has something to prove.

We also continue our closer look at the team with spring practice approaching March 3. You can check out our deep dives into the linebacker and DB positions that struggled a year ago but could be strengths. There’s also our continuing spring prospectus looks at the freshmen early enrollees, their backgrounds and how they project at Miami in Year 1. So check out our features on Malachi Toney, Brock Schott and Daylyn Upshaw.

We tackle the most pressing question for this Miami Hurricanes offense as well. That’s a WR position that lost a ton of talent and has several guys that will need to step up … with portal pieces perhaps still yet to be added.

There’s also our latest installment of Message Board Mania, this one looking at recent special teams failures and how that area of the game needs to take a jump up.

And there’s plenty of recruiting news for you to check out.

We caught up with recent UF decommitment Jaelen Waters, and the 4-star shares how the DB coaching move of Will Harris to the Canes may have put Miami in the driver’s seat. The Will Harris Effect is also help ing with 4-Star CB Chauncey Kennon, and we catch up with him at the Under Armour Orlando camp.

Also from the Under Armour Camp: Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day three-star prospect DJ Williams has locked in an official visit to Miami and said the Hurricanes are leading his recruitment. Don’t miss that news.

Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney four-star 2026 interior offensive lineman Da’Ron Parks was OL MVP at the camp, and he currently only has official visits locked in with Auburn and Penn State … but Miami is in as strong position as anyone as the Hurricanes continue an aggressive push. Find out about that.

We also were on hand as the top 7-on-7 teams made their way to Atlanta, Ga., for The Sevens Tournament as 16 teams battled for the 20,000 grand prize. Throughout the two-day event, there was no shortage of Miami commits and top targets on hand during the outing. Find out about that.

Another update: Miami’s coaching staff visited Carrollton (Ga.) Central four-star 2026 running back Jonaz Walton twice during the January contact period. It ultimately paid off when Walton included the Hurricanes in his top 10.

We also catch up with Park Ridge (Ill.) Maine South 2027 quarterback Jameson Purcell, who has a high early interest in Miami and talks about that.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei three-star 2026 cornerback CJ Lavender says he’s building a bond with DB coach Zac Etheridge and shares where things stand.

Another update: Boca Raton (Fla.) West Boca four-star 2026 running back Javian Mallory has felt like a major priority to Miami’s staff so far this year, and he’s set his UM OV and talks about where things stand.

Plus the baseball team had a weekend sweep vs. Princeton, and we had you covered with that. And Miami’s basketball team suffered another loss, this one to Virginia Tech.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Winning teams have alpha leaders keeping the team focused through the ups and downs through adversity. Will this team have to have player only meetings again during the season or is the culture stronger?”
