WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

We have your update on the Jai Lucas to Miami situation, with both Duke coach Jon Scheyer and Miami interim coach Bill Courtney weighing in … there’s an interesting timing situation to bear in mind with it. And we’re not talking about UM’s game vs. the Blue Devils tonight. So read about that.

We also have our latest Message Board Mania installment, this time taking a deeper dive into the team leadership question.

And we tackle the most pressing question entering spring ball facing a defense that woefully underperformed down the stretch last season.

More news: College Football Report recently ranked the ACC head coaches. And guess who is ahead of legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick? And ahead of ACC 2024 Coach of the Year Rhett Lashlee? That’s right, Miami Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal cemented himself at No. 2 on the list behind Clemson’s Dabo Swinney. We dive into that.

There’s also our continuing spring prospectus looks at the freshmen early enrollees, their backgrounds and how they project at Miami in Year 1. So check out our features on Luka Gilbert and SJ Alofaituli.

In recruiting be sure to check out the latest On300 rankings with our breakdown of which Cane targets are in there and where they stand.

CaneSport learned that Leesburg (Fla.) Tavares four-star 2026 linebacker Izayia Williams, the No. 12 overall prospect and No. 1 linebacker following the latest On300 rankings update Monday, has locked in an unofficial visit to Miami the weekend of March 30. We brought you that news.

Another update: Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage four-star 2026 receiver Brandon Bennett has long been high on Miami since he began receiving significant interest from major schools. We bring you the latest there.

We also had the news that Hoover (Ala.) Spain Park four-star 2026 receiver Corey Barber has locked in an official visit with the Hurricanes, including his thoughts on UM and the chances with him.

And Miami is making a move with College Park (Ga.) Buford four-star safety Nassir McCoy, who has been building a strong relationship with new Miami secondary coach Zac Etheridge. Read about that, too.

Plus we catch up with Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek three-star 2026 EDGE Evan Harvey. Miami is pushing and among the programs standing out to the 6-foot-1.5, 230-pound prospect.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Should Miami follow trend and cancel spring game? … Posted by insearchof6

It’s more just the latest symptom of a big problem for me.

The kids want millions. They also don’t want to play in bowl games. They don’t want to hurt themselves while collecting paychecks. Now you don’t want to play a spring game because another team is poaching your dudes. Get real. It’s silly.

Give me two a days with tackling all the time. Give me kids who play, get this crazy idea, in ALL their games. These kids are prima donnas and nowhere near where they should be.

I’ll step off my high horse now.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

Brandon Bennett (Keith Niebuhr/On3)

“I’ve most definitely gotta check out what the guys have going on down there. I’ve seen how they practice and stuff, but it’s just good every year to see where they pick up where they left off from last year. It’s a very new team this year. They lost Cam Ward and (Xavier) Restrepo and guys like that, but I know there are a lot of guys coming in ready to step in and help the team win.”
