WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Today is Miami’s Pro Day, and UM is targeting perhaps as many as 10 players going in the draft. It’s been a while since that happened, and this morning we have your preview of the event and this afternoon stay tuned for feedback off how it went.

And, of course, Saturday was Miami’s sixth spring practice and we had you fully covered. So don’t miss that.

In recruiting? Well, of course we had you covered with the Javian Mallory commitment over the weekend, including an analysis and coach’s take of what he brings to the table. There’s also a closer look at what’s next at the position, with UM expected to take two backs.

And we have plenty more updates for you:

Since receiving an offer from the Miami Hurricanes, Delaware (Ohio) Hayes four-star running back Favour Akih has established a strong relationship with Canes running backs coach Matt Merritt, and he’s set for a UM visit. Find out about that.

Visitors we catch up with? There’s a long list including No. 14 overall prospect and No. 1 defensive lineman James Johnson, Venice (Fla.) EDGE four-star Asharri Charles, Florida State linebacker commit Karon Maycock, Fort Myers (Fla.) three-star offensive tackle/Louisville commitment Joel Ervin, Miami (Fla.) Northwestern 2028 QB QB Neimann Lawrence, Cocoa (Fla.) top-150 safety CJ Hester, Charlotte (N.C.) Christian three-star tailback Jamal Rule, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas top-100 2027 offensive tackle Mark Matthews and Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas 2027 defensive back Jaden Carey.

Another update: Miami may be a relatively new name in Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield four-star cornerback Khary Adams’ recruitment, but that’s not stopping the Hurricanes from being right up there in his race. Find out about that.

We also talk with Delaware (Ohio) Hayes four-star running back Favour Akih ahead of his planned visit tomorrow.

There also was basketball portal news. We have an update on a new target, former Georgia State guard Zarique Nutter. And Montverde Academy (Fla.) four-star shooting guard Dante Allen backed off his commitment to the Wildcats on Friday following the firing of former head coach Kyle Neptune. Since then, the Miami Hurricanes and head coach Jai Lucas have reached out to the South Florida native, who is eyeing an official visit to Coral Gables on April 11. We have that.

Plus we take a closer look this morning at the challenge ahead for Lucas as he has to build the Miami roster from the ground up … starting with the portal that’s now open.

Plus in baseball we had your recaps off the final games of the series vs. FSU, a win Friday and loss Saturday as the Canes dropped two of three overall.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Was last year’s defense that complicated and this one that much easier? … posted by 6882

How hard can any defense be to grasp? I mean we’re talking about football not rocket science and these are all the best players out of high school with aspirations of playing the game for millions as pros. It’s not like they don’t have the time nor resources to hone in on anything football related. It’s literally their job and they’re getting a lot to do it.

I’m sorry but as bad as the coaching was last year, there was zero excuse for our D with the talent we had to be as completely inept as they were. I really don’t think it was just a matter of x’s and o’s nor lack of talent.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“The whole `lead by example,’ that’s a bunch of B.S. Leading by example is just doing what you’re supposed to be doing and keeping your mouth shut. We want the vocal part to be backed up by action. And we are seeing bits and spurts, hard workers. We are seeing time invested. We just really want to work, stay away from the nonsense, the B.S. and hype.”
