WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Well, last night was the NFL Draft, and of course we had you covered with the Cam Ward No. 1 pick. So read all about that, including Gary Ferman’s column. We also break down how Miami doesn’t just have numbers in its NFL Draft history, but also quality.

Don’t miss what Carson Beck is talking about, either, as he is rehabbing off injury and preparing for a big season.

We also continue to closely monitor the transfer portal news and update you as things develop, so check out where things stand there with visits ongoing. That includes an update with DB Wydett Williams, Jr. heading into his time on campus. There also is a new name to monitor: Georgia State WR Ted Hurst.

And with spring ball very much in the rearview mirror now we are starting our in-depth position by position previews. Today we zero in on the all-important QB spot.

In recruiting?

For the first time this year, New Orleans (La.) Edna Karr four-star linebacker and Auburn commit JaMichael Garrett made his way to Coral Gables for an unofficial visit with the Miami Hurricanes. Get his thoughts.

We also have an update on the shifting commitment timeline of Nixa (Mo.) No. 1 overall prospect Jackson Cantwell. Find out where UM sits now.

Another update is with Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star EDGE Daniel Norman. He hasn’t been one of the most-discussed names in Miami recruiting circles so far this year, but the Hurricanes are chasing him. Find out about that.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

Are we too focused on getting a stud WR? … Posted by OakCane

So much of the talk the past two yrs has been about getting that “stud” WR. I think it’s a reasonable argument to say forget about getting another portal WR, let the guys we got play, and put the bulk of our NIL resources toward the defense.

It’s interesting looking at the playoff teams last yr. The majority of them didn’t have that stud WR. Ped state,ND, Clemson, SMU, ASU, Georgia, Oregon, Indiana, Tenn…none of these teams had that guy at WR.

So, do we really need that guy?

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

Carson Beck (Seth Clarin photo)

“Obviously it was not in the script or plan, but I feel like God has a plan for everything He does, and ultimately it comes to fruition for A, B, or C reasons. Even after my injury, it wasn’t in my thoughts to go back to college. We ultimately came to the conclusion that returning to college was the best idea for me. Going to a new place with new people and new coaches—kind of revitalizing everything—created new and good energy for me and my mental space, and ultimately, I do think it was the best decision for me.”
