WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

We have your latest Message Board Mania analysis, looking at how 5-Stars aren’t everything and how the Miami Hurricanes can perhaps build by finding hidden gems.

In recruiting?

No. 1 overall prospect and top Miami priority Jackson Cantwell is set to announce his commitment on May 13, and the Hurricanes are pulling out all the stops to potentially land the elite offensive lineman. Find out about that.

Another update: Miami receivers coach Kevin Beard offered Miami (Fla.) Northwestern 2027 defensive back Amari Oquendo after swinging by his practice last week and monitoring the rising prospect. We catch up with Oquendo for where things stand now.

We also have an update with No. 18 overall prospect and No. 1 2027 defensive lineman Jalen Brewster. Miami offered following a visit to Cedar Hill (Tx.) to meet with Brewster’s head coach, Nick Ward, who played cornerback at Miami in the late 1990s and was college teammates with Lewis.

It’s also never too early to look ahead in recruiting and we take a look at Miami’s early pursuit of 2028 prospect Peter Pierre.

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

The WRs … Posted by eplanas

My view is Toney and Johnson likely are the 2-deep in slot with each competing for starting job and snaps. Johnson likely starter in early season but then see who plays better rest of the way.

On outside. JoJo is only certainty. If reports from BYU on Marion are accurate he will have a good shot too but still needs to earn it. Hard to say anything on CJ as was hurt all spring, but did show his leadership in organizing the room and making sure everyone knew how to put in work. Will still need to earn his playing time in fall practices. After that it’s Ny Carr and Moore competing also for playing time. Moore probably the most physically gifted WR in the room, but also the most raw. Needs to develop his route running and learn the playbook to get his time. Possible. but too early to predict. Looking good in 1on1 reps not the same as running routes in offense.

“I was just waiting patiently. I was just thankful for it, for real. …I definitely want to go there because I see a lot of people from Miami, they commit there and their careers really blow up after that because of the program.”
