WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Well, the team has a mandatory off day today coming off the weekend scrimmage. To hold you over till tomorrow’s news from the practice field?

Well, early this morning Mario Cristobal shared his take on this team upon further review off the weekend scrimmage. So you don’t want to miss that.

And CaneSport publisher Gary Ferman shares his thoughts on this team with the opener now less than two weeks to go, and over the weekend he also answered fans’ questions with his mailbag on the message board.

There also is a great recruiting take from 5-star commit Francis Mauigoa … from his game against Venice High and in particular Miami DE target Damon Wilson. So don’t miss that.

Plus we have a closer look at Tyler Van Dyke and how he’s getting viewed in the ACC QB talent pool.

Also stay tuned at around 7 a.m. for some more thoughts from Mario Cristobal off the scrimmage.

And there was plenty of news from over the weekend, including the information coming out of the scrimmage and our pre-scrimmage keys for this team. Plus we weighed in on the debate on if James Williams is better suited as a safety or linebacker. It seems many have pretty vociferous opinions on that.

Plus from Friday we had post-practice updates with Mario Cristobal, Tyler Van Dyke, Jake Garcia, Jalen Rivers and Tyrique Stevenson.

And we also had an update with a key 4-star in the 2024 class, Jamari Howard, and where his Miami recruitments stands.

As always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

TWEETS OF THE DAY

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

When Was The Last Time We Had A Big-Time QB Talent AND An Big-Time…? … Posted by advarkas

Dorsey and 2000? (Yes, Ken was a very talented QB).

Just look at the last 15 years:
(1) Perry, Williams, and Martell – all 4/5 star level talent. all had maturity issues, and all had Diaz.

(2) Rosier – mediocre passing QB who benefited from a Defense which forced the most turnovers in college football in 2017

(3) Kaaya – good career. 70 TDs and 10,000 passing yards with 60% Completion %. He did have CMR in 2016. You could argue 2016 we had a big time QB and a big time HC but I wouldn’t.

(4) Morris – a lot of up and down, average career stats, and had to endure Alverage FoldenZook and Turkey Tits.

(5) Jacory – finished with 70 TDs and around 9,000 yards with 60% Completion %. Threw a lot of bad interceptions because of Mark Whipple’s X-Box playbook, and had an average HC in The Man, The Myth, The Legend of Randall Leonard Shannon a/k/a The Onion a/k/a Old Folded Arms a/k/a The Doghouse Director a/k/a The Bagman.

And then there is TVD now…………………

Athletic Director – A+/A
Head Coach – A/A-
Offensive Coordinator – A-
Defensive Coordiantor – A-
S&C Coach – A+/A
Support Staff – A-
Roster Talent – A-/B+
Roster Depth – B

TVD, as a sophmore, and with a good statistical season, could pass Stephen Morris, Gino Torretta, Vinny Testaverde, and Steve Walsh in career touchdowns. I think that TVD will stay THROUGH his Junior Season to, and end up easily surpassing Jacory and Kaaya, and likely finish ahead of Ken Dorsey’s 86 career passing TDs, and end up #1 all-time in passing touchdowns.

Obviously, the game has changed from the 80’s and 90’s.

But when you like at what we have at QB in TVD, and how we FINALLY have a first-class coaching staff to SUPPORT a big-time QB talent in TVD – things are going to get real exciting. Looking forward to it.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

A lot of positive stuff, some other stuff we have to get better at. … We’ve increased our levels of physicality, toughness, resiliency, being able to finish, and the guys that really attacked the offseason it shows up in a big, positive way, The guys that quite don’t understand it and aren’t there, it exposes those guys.
