Michigan State's Charles Brantley, right, breaks up a pass intuited for Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr. during the second quarter on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing.

If you’re a Miami Hurricanes fan, Michigan State cornerback Charles Brantley is the kind of cornerback the team needed this past season when so many busts occurred in the secondary. He’s fast and physical, and has a nose for the ball – he had three interceptions in nine games before missing the final three due to a leg injury.

Better late than never, right?

Because Brantley is boarding a plane to Miami early this afternoon and will begin his UM visit this evening. He’ll be on campus tomorrow as well. Then he plans to make a quick decision, Brantley told CaneSport today.

“I’ll be announcing after the Miami visit,” he said. “I visited Ole Miss and UCF, they were nice, and just went to Illinois. And my top two is Illinois and Miami.”

Brantley wasn’t recruited by Miami as a 4-star out of Venice (Fla.) High School and he liked the Canes back then as well. But that was a different staff. He says the task for UM’s coaches this weekend is to make him comfortable with this being a talented overall defense. He doesn’t want to be part of a group that doesn’t succeed overall.

“I don’t want it to be just me (making plays),” Brantley said.

As for why he wanted to make Miami a visit?

“I’m not going to lie, I really like them,” Brantley said. “They’ve been after me, say they need me.”
