Live From The Crib: Eye on how trio of Miami Hurricanes commits performed in Edison vs. Palmetto game ... including their feedback
The Miami Hurricanes 2023 recruiting class may still have some time before stepping foot on campus, but Thursday evening at Curtis Park, we might have gotten a sneak peek at what kind of talent they are bringing to Coral Gables. Miami commits Nathaniel Joseph, Bobby Washington, and Robby Washington matched up against each other as Miami Edison faced off against Miami Palmetto.
In the end, the Washington twins came out on top as their Panthers downed Joseph’s Red Raiders 35-7.
“Just knowing that we are all coming in and we got that ability to change Miami around, it’s just amazing,” Joseph said.
Palmetto opened the scoring thanks to a seven-yard Robby Washington touchdown reception as the four-star WR went up and grabbed a fade over the Miami Edison defender near the pylon.
“I’m feeling good,” Robby said. “That was just our win to get back on track. We’re just trying to stay on the right track and get to where we need to be, which is a state championship. “
Later in the first quarter, Edison’s defense tied it up for head coach Luther Campbell with a 25-yard scoop and score, but that would be the only points the Red Raiders would get from the game, as Palmetto went on to score 28 unanswered points to win.
“Our defense is resilient,” Panthers head coach Michael Manasco said. “Those guys are a blue-collar group, they worked their tail off.”
Bobby Washington led that tenacious defense, which forced four turnovers. Washington was wreaking havoc at linebacker and as an edge rusher all night. After the game, Joseph praised his future Miami teammate.
“I ran a jet sweep and I just knew I was going to outrun Bob (Bobby Washington), and the man came flying out of nowhere,” Joseph said. “I only got about two yards, and I usually get 15 a pop. He definitely did a good job of containing me and making sure I didn’t get around that corner. I mean, just his speed and his ability to go from end to linebacker is just amazing. “
Notable Performers
Miami 2023 commit Robby Washington
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound wideout can be best described as a human joystick. In the blink of an eye, Washington can turn almost any catch into a house call. He’s not the biggest receiver, but good luck bringing him down on the first try. In the second half, Robby caught a four-yard slant route, made two Edison defenders miss and collide with each other as he strolled into the end zone for his second touchdown of the game.

Miami 2023 commit Nathaniel Joseph
Joseph went down moments before halftime after what looked to be a lower-body injury and did not return to the game. After the game, he was in good spirits and said the injury was nothing major.
“I’m feeling way better from the first half,” Joseph said. “When it first happened, my leg was kind of weak, but now I’ve got some more strength back in it.”
Miami 2023 commit Bobby Washington
Washington displayed during the matchup just how versatile he could be at the next level. He demonstrated his speed and coverage ability while dropping back to defend the pass, his ball pursuit skills flying sideline to sideline, and his ability to put his foot in the ground and get to the quarterback for 2.5 sacks, an aspect of his game he says he has worked on this season.
“The best thing about him is that you can play him all over,” Manasco said. “We do a good job of moving him around, trying to find the best advantage for us for him because he’s so dynamic. He’s just going to create mismatches wherever you put him.”
2024 WR prospect Brandon Lowe
With Joseph sidelined for the second half, Lowe played a vital role in the Edison passing attack, hauling in six catches for over 100 yards. The 6-foot, 185-pounder is an aggressive pass catcher who has sneaky speed and can make a defender miss for some yards after the catch.
2025 WR prospect Cameron Sapp
Opposite Robby Washington, sophomore Cameron Sapp provides the Panthers with another deep-ball threat at the receiver position. With Edison focused on slowing down Robby, Sapp made the Red Raiders pay by burning his defender in one-on-one coverage for an 80-yard touchdown reception.
