Local 4-star DB Amari Wallace signs with Miami Hurricanes: 'I always say love who loves you'
Miami (Fla.) Central four-star safety Amari Wallace didn’t play his senior season while he recovered from a fractured tibia he suffered in July, but he and the Hurricanes remained solid with each other through his injury recovery.
Wednesday, it ultimately resulted in the local four-star prospect signing his National Letter of Intent with Miami.
Wallace and Miami remained solid with each other through the summer and fall following his commitment in late June despite his season-ending injury and a recovery that’s expected to continue after he arrives on campus. Wallace is expected to make a full recovery and previously said he expects to participate in spring football after enrolling at Miami in January.
Wallace has been solid with the Hurricanes through the fall and never seriously entertained other programs after committing. He also considered Louisville, Penn State, Syracuse, Florida and LSU this spring, although Miami was long viewed as the team to beat for the local star.
“I always say love who loves you,” Wallace said. “At first it was shocking, but then I got used to it. It feels good, though. It feels great!”
His relationship with Miami’s staff and the idea of playing close to home both played huge roles in his commitment to the Hurricanes. He’s expected to play nickel back at the college level.

“I love the Canes,” Wallace said in September. “The Canes, I can’t want anything more from the Canes. What I can say is that I want to thank them. I want to thank the whole coaching staff, the recruiters, everybody. I want to tell them I appreciate them for everything they’re doing. Me committing there, it’s like, why not staying home? Why not have my family see me play at Hard Rock Stadium when they can just drive there instead of having to fly somewhere?”
Miami’s staff has offered Wallace encouragement as he recovers from his injury and helped the four-star safety maintain a positive attitude during his rehab. He told CaneSport in early November he’s excited knowing the next time he suits up will be in a Miami uniform.
“I feel very excited because however my x-ray looks and what the doctor tells me about when I can get cleared, I’ll be thinking of God because I always have to put God first,” Wallace said. “Without God, I won’t be in this (position). God did this, and God did this for a reason. But I will be getting on the field and giving my all to the University of Miami.”
CaneSport’s Take
Wallace may not have been as big of a name in South Florida high school football circles this fall since he missed his senior season with an injury, but we still believe he’s one of the country’s top defensive backs and has awesome potential at the college level.
