Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek LB/DE Marcellius Pulliam was one of the first scholarship offers that coach Mario Cristobal gave out after arriving at Miami last December. At that time it was his 15th offer.
Pulliam kept adding offers afterward.
But in the end only one mattered.
He committed to Miami Dec. 3 and stuck by that.
He’s now confirmed signing with Miami.
“Miami is a great school, has some things coming,” Pulliam said. “Miami, coach Cristobal over there, they’re trying to do something special.”
Pulliam had only visited Miami once, in June unofficially. But he felt the love from Canes coaches. When he announced he chose the Hurricanes over Auburn, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State and Louisville.
“I see they are making something great,” Pulliam said. “And coach (Charlie) Strong, the linebackers coach, he’s a great guy, you know? I can really connect with coach Strong. He gives off a great vibe, and the atmosphere there – they treated me like family. It’s a family atmosphere.”

As for what the Canes have landed in Pulliam?
For that we reached out to his mentor/Sandy Creek high DL coach Jeremiah Hammond.
“Marcellius, first off he’s a great, great leader,” Hammond said. “He moved here from Detroit (as a sophomore), a tough area of Detroit, and he has that Detroit rough edge but at the same time that great heart. When you want to go to war, you want Marcellius.
“He’s done a great job athletically, is 6-4, 220, and I still see him getting taller. I know Kentucky was looking at him as an edge rusher and while people are saying linebacker with him I think ultimately with him being a very aggressive player and edge rusher fits him. But he does really like playing linebacker, likes covering, so that’s what most recruited him for. … His style of play is really, really aggressive and he does very well on the run.”
