Amid rumors of possible interest in or potential visits to Alabama, Five-Star Plus+ Miami cornerback commit Cormani McClain (Lakeland, Fla.) reaffirmed his commitment to the Canes in an interview with On3 Friday.

“I’m not going anywhere,” McClain told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “I don’t know where they got that from. They’re wildin’ out.”

McClain, the On3 Consensus’ No. 2 overall recruit in the 2023 class, committed to Miami Oct. 27 over Florida, Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State, among others. He has remained the No. 1 recruit at the cornerback position by all four major recruiting databases and is and the No. 1 recruit in Florida.

Cristobal paid the 6-foot-2, 160-pound cornerback an in-home visit Friday, according to On3’s Peter Warren, and McClain has helped boost Miami to the country’s No. 10 recruiting class. He’s one of three cornerbacks committed to the Canes in the 2023 class along with four-star recruits Robert Stafford (Melbourne, Fla.) and Antione Jackson.

McClain is also one of two On3 Consensus Five-Star Plus+ Miami commits and holds the highest NIL valuation on the team at an estimated value of $362,000. The Canes hold the No. 2 class in the ACC behind Clemson and hold the most five-star commitments of any ACC team in the upcoming class.

McClain has taken seven unofficial visits to Florida since 2021 and two unofficial visits to Miami, but Miami is the only school he has taken an official visit to. He has taken two unofficial visits to Miami and Alabama and one unofficial visit to Florida State and Georgia. He has also visited Ohio State and USC in 2022 but has only visited Florida and Miami since June 24.

CaneSport’s Take

McClain’s reaffirmation to the Canes should be a massive relief to Miami fans after speculation of potential flips. McClain has continued to attract substantial attention from Florida and Alabama. As Miami’s class’ recruiting ranking continues to fluctuate with various commitments and decommitments, McClain’s commitment is of the utmost importance. The Canes haven’t lost a commit this month, although several have made Miami fans sweat as they have stopped shy of saying they were no longer maintaining contact from other athletes. Miami could potentially land a third five-star recruit if the Canes can get offensive tackle Samson Okunlola, who is visiting Florida this weekend, to commit. Okunlola said earlier this week he did not feel any school is in the lead to land his commitment.
