Miami adds DL depth with Thomas Gore choosing Canes
Former Georgia State defensive tackle Thomas Gore has committed to Miami, the four-star transfer prospect announced on signing day. Gore picked Miami over North Carolina, Kansas State and others after the redshirt junior spent four seasons at Georgia State. He was All-Sun Belt Conference honorable mention in 2021 and has played in every game since the 2020 season, tallying 93 career total tackles, 11 sacks and two forced fumbles as a defensive lineman. He also has 76 career pressures.
He was offered by Miami Dec. 9 and announced he was entering the portal immediately following the conclusion of his season.
The 6-foot, 270-pound Georgia State star had a career high 2.5 sacks in a game against Old Dominion this season and had eight tackles for loss in 2022. He was a three-star high school recruit out of Brentwood Academy (TN) without a Power Five offer but developed at Georgia State.
He redshirted his freshman season before becoming a full-time starter by his redshirt sophomore year. He has two years of eligibility remaining and was primarily recruited by Miami defensive line coach Joe Salave’a and defensive ends coach Rod Wright.

Gore took an official visit to North Carolina Dec. 14 and 15 and visited Miami the week of Dec. 16. He had also maintained regular contact with Kansas State and was pursued by a plethora of Group of Five programs.
CaneSport’s Take
Gore’s commitment helps give Miami a talented and deep class of defensive linemen and EDGEs after the Canes were understaffed up front to begin the month of December. The Canes won’t be short on new faces on campus next season along the defensive line, and Gore could be a talent who can make an immediate impact. His proven ability at the college level means he won’t need additional time to develop – which is often the case with high school linemen making the transition to the college level. Gore can help out at a Miami DT spot that lost Darrell Jackson to the transfer portal and only has one proven player in Leonard Taylor (with key backup Jordan Miller also transferring).
