Miami’s recruiting ball is continuing to roll as the Hurricanes landed their first offensive line commit of the 2024 class Tuesday afternoon.

Paramus (N.J.) Catholic three-star offensive lineman Juan Minaya announced his verbal commitment to Miami Tuesday following months of increasingly intense recruitment from Miami’s staff. The 6-foot-6, 330-pound offensive lineman is listed as the No. 60 offensive tackle by the On3 Industry Ranking but said he wasn’t recruited to play one specific position on the offensive line.

“1000% committed to The University of Miami!” Minaya tweeted along with the hashtag “GoCanes.”

Miami has been the leader for Minaya according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine over Penn State, Maryland, Michigan State and others. After his most recent trip to Miami for the Hurricanes’ spring game last Friday, he knew he was ready to commit.

So why Miami?

“The coaches and the culture,” Minaya said. “I feel like a place doesn’t make a home; it’s the people inside. I just know when I go to Miami they are going to coach the third string just like how they would coach the first string. The people just felt like home.”

Miami’s coaching staff was not pushing Minaya to commit leading up to the decision, but the staff was ready when the three-star lineman made his decision. He also said he plans to shut down his recruitment, telling CaneSport: “I’m a Hurricane. Once you make a decision, you stick to it.”

“I feel like when you know, you know,” Minaya said. “I’m ready to be a Hurricane and ball out my senior year.”

Minaya’s commitment comes less than 24 hours after the Hurricanes landed Hollywood (Fla.) South Broward standout running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey, two days after landing Louisiana native Dylan Day and four days after nabbing four-star receiver Chance Robinson at the spring game. Miami now has five total commitments in this year’s class including three-star quarterback Judd Anderson, who committed earlier this month, and three-star kicker Abram Murray, who committed last summer.

CaneSport’s Take

We were wondering when the commitments would start rolling in for Miami, and it looks like we’re finally here. The Hurricanes have checked off four names from their big board in the past two weeks after Anderson committed in early April, and at least two have already said they plan to completely shut down their recruitment (Anderson and Minaya). Robinson said he still plans to visit a few programs, but these five prospects are locked in on Miami.
