Miami checks in at No. 16 in just-released AP Poll, flip-flopping with Pitt from the Coaches Poll
The preseason Associated Press poll was released today, and the Miami Hurricanes checked in at a respectable No. 16.
Perhaps most interesting in the poll?
How it matched up with a previously released Coaches Poll. In the Coaches Poll, Miami was No. 17, a spot behind ACC Coastal foe Pittsburgh. The AP Poll has Miami one spot ahead of Pitt by a fairly wide point margin, 476-383. The Coaches Poll had Pitt barely ahead of UM by a point margin of 450-433.
Those were the top two Coastal teams listed, and they play each other in the final regular season game Nov. 26 at Hard Rock Stadium. In essence, both major polls are saying that game will determine who will represent the Coastal in the ACC title game.
Of course, it’s all conjecture at this point.
Also of note: The ACC Atlantic’s top ranked team was, no surprise, Clemson at No. 4 (behind No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Ohio State and No. 3 Georgia). Miami’s Game 4 opponent, Texas A&M, came in ranked No. 6. One other ACC team was also ahead of Miami – NC State at No. 13. Ranked behind UM in the AC was Wake Forest at No. 22, and among “others receiving votes” was UNC at No. 39 overall.
The AP Poll matched up with ACC media that earlier in the summer picked Miami to win the Coastal, this poll is essentially picking the Hurricanes to finish second in the division. Yes, Pittsburgh was chosen at No. 16 (with 450 points to UM’s 433).

The poll also for all intents and purposes says the game at Clemson is the Canes’ toughest, with playing at Texas A&M not far behind.
Interestingly, Louisville and Florida State didn’t get any votes, whereas they did in the Coaches Poll.
Now, for a moment, let’s flash back to the ACC preseason poll for a bit more context. The Canes got 98 of the 164 votes to finish in first place in the Coastal, with Pittsburgh finishing No. 2 with 38 first-place votes. North Carolina was third with 18.
So Miami’s got some respect nationally.
Now the team has to show out on the field.
