Miami continues to impress 4-star QB Ryan Montgomery
Since offering Findlay (Ohio) four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery in January, Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson has continued to make the 2025 prospect feel like a priority, which has the Hurricanes among his top schools early on.
“I love coach Dawson, and I’ve been in contact with him for the past couple of months now,” Montgomery told CaneSport. “He was one of the first guys to come to see me during the open period in spring, so that meant a lot to me.”
Since watching him throw live during his spring practices in May, Dawson has stayed in touch with the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder as the two continue to straighten their relationship.
“I was on Zoom with him a couple of weeks ago, so just being able to learn about his offensive schematics was awesome,” Montgomery said. “It’s pretty similar to what we do at my high school, and they’re going to sling it around the yard. Im excited to see what they’re going to do this year with Tyler Van Dyke back.”
Along with Dawson, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal has been in communication with Montgomery as well and has let it be known that he is one of their top targets in the 2025 cycle.
“Coach Cristobal popped on a Zoom call with me a couple of weeks ago, and just being able to talk to him was pretty cool to me,” Montgomery said. “They think I’m the type of kid that can be a program changer. They say I’m at the top of their board right now and want to get me on campus for a visit.”
While his relationship with the staff may be one of the biggest reasons for his interest in the program, the Hurricanes’ historic past has piqued his liking of the school a bit more.

“I’ve always watched them, and they have a rich history,” Montgomery said. “I think they’re getting back to that super high level. It’s a great city, and there are a lot of opportunities in Miami as well.”
Although communications between Miami and the No. 210 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, are at a minimum, the Hurricanes have done all they can to let Montgomery know he is wanted in Coral Gables.
“That makes me feel great hearing that,” Montgomery added. “Putting in all this work all my life, it’s a pretty big deal, and that means a lot to me.”
CaneSport’s take
During June’s Under Armour Future 50 camp, Montgomery was one of the top throwers on hand and showcased to the country why Power Five schools across the nation are after his services. Early on, it looks like the Hurricanes have positioned themselves in a good spot with Montgomery, who says he hopes to visit South Florida for a game this fall as he hopes to continue to develop his relationship with the Hurricanes.
