Walters strikes out 10, Miami Hurricanes sweep Niagara with 11-1 victory

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team (3-0) secured the opening series sweep over the Niagara Purple Eagles (0-3) Sunday afternoon by a score of 11-1 in seven innings.
Pitcher Brian Walters (1-0), started his first outing of the season strong, ending with ten strikeouts in five innings – notching his first career win. Ten strikeouts is a new single-game career high for the right-hander. His previous strikeout high (five) occurred last April against Louisville.
A dominant third inning helped lift the Hurricanes to an early 4-1 lead, with a crucial double coming from the bat of Dorian Gonzalez that scored freshman infielder Brandon DeGoti. Gonzalez ended the afternoon perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBI.
The momentum created by Miami during the third inning stayed with the team for the rest of the game as the Hurricanes would then go on to score two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning.
